  • Yukon Rims (what to use)

Just picked up a 2004 Yukon with factory rims that are in poor shape. What should I use to get them looking like new ?

What sort of wheels are they - polished with a clear coat, painted, etc? How bad are they? Any chance of seeing a pic or three?

Factory painted with clear coat but that's just a guess. No pic's right now it's in the shop getting a muffler today.

Heavy soiled and slight rust starting to show, no shine at all.

      Thanks for the help.

If they are starting to rust, you are going to have a little project on your hands.

Just rusty blemish pockets about the size of a pin head and not pitted.

          Any suggestions ???

Wheel Brightener perhaps? Purple Power or Simple Green cut right could work as well.

Give them a good cleaning with APC. Then re-evaluate from there.

I recently did a 1999 Escalade with factory chrome wheels. After using APC and some various brushes. I luckily removed a lot of the rust spots. I then tried Megs Hot rims mag and aluminum polish. Removed what was left of the spots. 2 Months later the rims still look great.

Now I realize this is not going to be typical for all. Just what worked for me in this instance.

What about Nevr-Dull ? I know its not a Meguires product but all the Meguires stuff I see is not for painted clear coat rims.

                Or should I consider UC?

Kinda like the bottom pic, 6 spoke, not a bright polished crome more alloy

Must have a clear coat since there factory rims, right ? So then what about UC ? Tired Swirlx and nothing happened at all ?

Not all factory wheels have a clear coat. GM is one of the bigger (biggest?) car makers that does that.

Found out they are 2007, 6 spoke rims, Yukon is a GMC and so are the rims.

Still looking for what to use?

Just throwing this out there. How about after you clean them with apc or whatever you regularly use to clean rims. Then do a test spot. Try a metal polish. If your towel turns black, they are not clear coated. If it turns black, keep working on them. Just a thought, typing out loud.
