Couple of months ago my wife managed to get a very ugly scratch on the rear-right side of the car, next to the tire. Not that the whole car is free of scratches at all, but this one is pretty obvious, besides, it seems that it reached the metal, so I don't want rust to get in there and make things even worse.
So, I've been thinking on give it a try and fix it. I've been reading lots of threads around this forums, and also from here: http://guidetodetailing.com/damage-r...repair-clinic/
As you can see from the pictures, it seems the scratch is very deep, and it reached the metal, so I may need to order some primer as well from http://www.paintscratch.com/
I was thinking on getting the touch up from my local mazda dealer, but they don't seel the primer, so I might as well order the whole set from paint scratch.
Basically I need some pointers, because this will be the first time I do something like this. I've been detailing my car for a few years but never had to fix a defect like this.
I'm not too concerned about wet sanding, and I'm willing to be patient and get all the tools that I require.
Right now I only have the G110v2, couple of polishing and finishing 6.5'' pads, and my strongest compound I think is ScratchX.
I can work on it a couple of hours a day, at night, and weekend for longer periods. And I have the following questions:
- In the paint repair clinic site, it recommends to wash with dish washer soap to remove any wax, and also to apply by thin layers at a time, would it be wise to somehow cover the area with something while in between sessions? I'm asking because if I work at night, and continue next day, this car is daily driver, so me and/or my wife will drive it continously.
- What do you use as a lubricant when wet sanding? Any links to videos by any chance?
- What sanding paper do you recommend me to get? ADS is selling a Meguiar's kit http://www.autodetailingsolutions.ne...nding-kit.html 1000 and 1500 should be enough?
- What compound do you recommend when I get to the stage of removing the sanding marks?
- By looking at the pictures, do you think is doable? I'm afraid to ask this question, but want to have realistic expectations.
- I should order the whole set from paint scratch including the primer, right? Or what you think?
Any other tips, recommendations, advice, "plan of attack" will be greatly appreciated
