  • Color Match/Clearcoat match.

Due to vandalism (All except 3 panels on my S2000) the affected areas were sanded top to bottom, primed in the areas where it was keyed and painted to blend into the existing paint. I must say it turned out well, however I noticed in "bad lighting" such as car washes at night that the parts not painted ex. hood and left fender look darker in color than the rest of it. I know that the Red paint on S2000's had some color added to it. I have spoken to several with the same car with the same color and the fact that some color appears on polishing pads accounts for this. In the bright sun light everything looks great and the only way to tell that it was repainted is a few chips on the unpainted areas compared to the newly painted areas. I have come to the conclusion that this color difference has to do with the clear coat. Does this sound reasonable? Also they warranty the paint and work for life, but seeing how this is only in certain light that I see the difference there may not much can be done, but I may be wrong...

hey...heres my advice. lol. Dont be a pain in the butt but def call the shop and explain the issue. Explain to them what you see and mabey they can tell you why it does it or how they can fix it. good luck! i hope it works out....some shops can be a PAIN to deal with...

First post (lurking for quite some time though)

IIRC, those S2000s have a 3 stage paint which is very hard to duplicate/ match correctly.

I have heard everything from this car having a single stage, to two stage and now three stage paint job. Not really knowing I won't argue with anyone.

I had a red car before this one (Civic Si) and had a bumper replaced. With that one the little dump shop that did the work wasn't even close to matching the color. In any light you could tell the bumper was practically orange compared to the rest of the car.

I don't know whether or not it will be worth the hassle to get it to match in all types of light or not. This is my DD until winter and it's unfortunate it had to get vandalized and even worse on the night I bought it. The only true solution would to probably have the fender and hood re cleared also. Fortunately no one has noticed this but me, everyone I show the car to asks if it's brand new and are amazed at how good it looks when I tell them it's an 06. Decisions... Decisions...

          Hi Bud

I am pretty sure that this mismatch is due to the fading of the original paint, this was not visible previously as the whole car was obviously the same but as soon as you have had the other panels resprayed in the original colour the fading becomes more obvious - i have seen this may times most obvious if you are parked in a fuel station at night under their strip lighting. You may get some improvement from machine polishing the original panels but unfortunately this is a common problem with Red.

Good luck with getting it sorted and i hope they caught the guy(s) that keyed your car
