  • painting @ my work?!?

So on thurs and friday they are painting the second floor/roof of my work. They are clearing the front parking lot and we are supposed to park like 20 yrds away. Is this and issue with overspray? If its windy is 20-25 yrds away too close? What y'all think? Btw im doing a full detail on sat and don't wanna have to deal with overspray. Lol

Not knowing what type of paint they'll be spraying, park as far away as possible. Perfect days to carpool with someone if you live near anyone you work with.

Working on commercial construction sites, I've seen paint overspray drift 50-60 yards if there's enough wind. Painter that happened to had to have epoxy paint overspray removed from about 35 pieces of construction equipment (belonging to the building owner), a couple of semis, a crane, and a bunch of cars and trucks including the assistant superintendent's truck. Not fun for anyone involved.

If it were me - I wouldn't drive a nice car to work those painting days.

You'll be surprised how far paint overspray can carry - I worked on a friends car with overspray from a building being painted almost 100 yards away from his parking spot. His workplace is next to a major street so the wind from passing Semi-Trucks easily carried the overspray to his car.

Another idea if you have to drive your car that day is to put a cover or tarp over it for protection.

I, too, recommend not driving if at all possible. Depending on the paint used, claying may or may not remove it. I certainly wouldn't want to have to find out.

If you do risk it and drive your beloved Suzuki, park as far away as possible up wind. Maybe even bring a bike, park 5 miles from work, and ride in. Ha Ha.

haha. yea. if my suzuki got overspray on her she would probably run away!!! hahaha but im gonna part super far behind some tractor trailers. lol. and me and my suzuki had a bonding night tonight...i tightned up some things, cleaned out my glove box, checked fluids, secured some wires, weather proffed some stuff, and got my lowering spring issue fixed. lol we will see hoe she handles the painting tomorrow.

                Re: painting @ my work?!?

Paint will travel until it lands on something. If it's windy with an updraft, it could travel a block, a mile. If they are painting a roof, there is a good chance it will travel quite far.

20 yards, you could probably spit that far off of a roof. Gimme a break.

Jsut get a car cover. Doesn't have to be a high quality $300 cover. I bought a $40 truck cover at menards for my truck and it's fully water proof and won't scratch my truck at all. I trust it enough to use it and I'm picky as heck when it comes to my truck.

Seriously, park as far away as possible. How about public transportation for the 2 days? Better be safe then sorry.

Dude...park as FAR away as POSSIBLE....walk a 1/4 mile if you have too. It ain't worth the headache that overspray can cause.....

                        Re: painting @ my work?!?

A few years ago they spray painted a 100+ foot high water tower ay my office building. Needless to say it went EVERYWHERE, including my car. My black Mustang felt like 40 grit sandpaper when you ran your hand across it. Then the painting contractor offered to remove it off everyone's car with some kind of solvent. I thought, no way! So I ordered Megs aggressive clay. That and Final Inspection as a lube worked great, you could feel it popping the paint off as I glided it across the surface. Before this I had never clayed a car. I would suggest, call in sick, take the bus or get a car cover.

Check your local weather predictions for the likely wind direction and park upwind as far as possible away.
