  • W-8006 polishing pads vs. LC pads?

hey Mike. Kevin here again. When you speak of the Meguiar's pads, such as the one in the title, is this similar to the LC WHITE pad?

And you think the LC White pad with M205 using my PC will get out most or all of my swirls on my 02 red Viper rt10 paint?

    thanks!

p.s. I only use LC pads.

I finished this up for our forum but thought that it might be of some benefit here. Comments or critiques are welcomed!

The link coopers23 provided is a great way to compare pad aggressiveness between Meguiar's and LC units.

But will M205 on a white LC pad via D/A be enough to pull out all the swirls from your Viper? Hard to say. But M205 is relatively mild and is generally better suited to finishing work. We highly recommend it for your car, but maybe not as the correction step. But definitely do a test spot with it first - if it gets the job done, so be it. If not, and you need to step up to something more aggressive, we would suggest Ultimate Compound before moving all the way up to M105. You'll find UC to be much more forgiving on a D/A with a far longer buffing cycle and less dust. The cut will be surprisingly close to M105 though.

After UC you may or may not find the paint to be LSP ready. But in all honestly, after using UC to correct defects you're going to want to give the car a slow once over with M205 on a softer finishing pad. The level of clarity M205 can impart to a finish is incredible, and if you want to make that Viper glow red hot, you won't want to skip that step.

thanks Mike.Still have not had time to do the Viper yet. Will be very soon though. What would you recommend for the PADS? UC with a Orange LC?

For M205- a LC White or Black pad?

Whats better you think on my red Viper paint for the final step....Collinite wax (paste) or Menzerna FP2?

        Thanks again Mike! Kevin.

It really depends on the hardness of your paint. I think dodge paint tends to be on the harder side. You should get good results with UC/LC orange, then M205/LC White. If the paint is on the softer side, you can try UC/LC orange, then M205/LC gray. Do a test spot first before polishing the whole car.

You can't compare Collinite paste with Menzerna FPII. Colli is a wax, while Menz FPII is an abrasive polish. Are you asking about protection as your final step?

That's the bottom line, always. Try the white pad first in a test spot to see where that gets you. If you need to step up to the orange pad then by all means do so, but try a step down first.

As for your LSP, again HPaddict is on target here - one of your chosen options is a wax the other is not. We'd actually recommend NXT Tech Wax 2.0 but then again we may be a touch biased!
