  • Ultimate Quik Wax or not for Daily Driver?

    Hi

I have a 2001 Audi S4 Black, that I drive about 3 times a week. Parked outside usually under trees (otherwise) on San Francisco Streets. I bought the car a few months ago and its been garaged in the past but neglected.

Last week I went to the Thursday's detailing class (highly recommended btw), and used a DA and Ultimate compound and a polymer sealant on my hood. Rest of car was clayed a bit, but nothing else. (not sure how to include attachments)

I will likely be buying a DA and either using Ultimate Compound or something less aggressive to start with in the future.

For now, will be washing car with Meg's Gold Class and a wool mitt this weekend and after that, wanted to know if it would be good to use Ultimate Quik Wax, though there are several swirls etc. or should I wait till I remove swirls and then wax it

    Thanks

    Shriram

It is never a bad idea to use UQW ....as long as the surface is clean that is lol

if u were a coustomer of mine and if i could see the car i would prep out the whole car. especially if i seen the neglect in person.. i would caly compound (high speed) polish make sure the swirls were removed and then seal it with a good wax like meguiars #20 or #26... thats what i would have done

I have no hesitation in recommending UQW, however it is a booster product and not a standalone wax.

I would recommend using a proper LSP, such as NXT Tech Wax or Gold Class Wax to ensure that your paint has decent protection - even if it is still swirled. At least you will be treating the paint well until you get the opportunity to remove the swirls.

It would be beneficial short term.

Agreed, I use my 4 layer approach and by the time im done the car is good for a while. The next wash the car is already looking great and I follow up with UQW and have not had a issue since making that one of my final steps.

Shriram, it's good to hear you plan on buying a G110v2 soon - your car will thank you for it! After having worked on the hood of your car last week we would recommend you stick with Ultimate Compound once you get that buffer. Anything less aggressive is probably not going to be up to the task, given what we saw when the car was here.

In the mean time, your plan sounds good. UQW, if used every week or two, will certainly get you through until you spend a day buffing out the paint and then apply a proper wax or sealant. After than, using UQW every time you wash will keep the shine at a very high level for quite a long time.

Thanks Mike will definitely use Ultimate compound once I get the buffer. and use UQW in the interim.
