  • white dots invasion

    Hi, guys, i have 11 month young (2010) non-metallic ebony black Mazda6.

As you can see on pictures, there are these tiny white spots all over my car; paint, plastic pillar posts, plastic roof trim, window gaskets. They differ in size from the size of saltgrain (look like milky-white overspray) to as small as dust particles (rather very tiny pores or something like paint overspray), but there is soooooo many of them especially on plastic roof trim and rubber gaskets.
There is stone cutting shop across the street where i live, so i guess some stone-dust mixed with whatever chemicals they use is coming out the shop because they keep the gate open all the time during summer. Then it sits on my car. Second thought - possibly dried wax that is stuck in some micro-pores on paint, just free-guessing, do not know if this is even possible cause
I tried Meguiars Clay Kit on paint , both mild and aggresive, the agressive one took care of about half of these dots, mostly small ones but after tons of passes, if i had to clay the whole car just to get rid of only 50% of these, it would take me 2 days of hard work. Bigger spots are so stubborn they come off after 50 passes or do not at all. So i suppose claying is rather bad technique to take care of that. Although, windows got cleaned no problem with clay.
My second idea was Simple Green with degreaser i found in shop and tried by chance.

This worked like magic, both on paint and gaskets, and dots came off in seconds. Now my concern is - if this is way to go - is it safe to use Simple Green Cleaner/Degreaser? And if not - will Meguiars Body Solvent give same results? Is Body Solvent safe to use on such new finish (11 months)? If so, what other products after Meg'sBS should i use to protect paint for future? Or maybe some different technique? I'd rather stay away from polishing because paint itself looks just beautiful.
    Thanks for any help.

Regular use of a diluted mix of Simple Green shouldn't be too horrible as long as you fully wash it off after use. Body Solvent may work equally as well, but you'll want to thoroughly wash after using it too. In fact, a couple cups of distilled white vinegar in a bucket of wash water might be sufficient.

In any case, however, you want to be extremely careful that you aren't dragging these little bits of stuff across the paint as it will be very easy to scratch the paint. You're also going to be stripping wax doing any of these process (to some degree the same will be true of claying).

We would suggest you wax the car monthly with a good polymer product like NXT Tech Wax 2.0 or M21 and then wipe the car down every day or every other day with UQD and a couple of microfiber towels. This will help prevent this stuff from sticking to the paint in the first place - you want these contaminants off as soon as possible.

There are a number of solutions to your problem but I'd be curious as to the root cause. It almost appears as if the car was in close proximity to someone spraying something or someone detailing with a rotary buffer slinging compound and polish everywhere...

Washing and keeping the finish protected with a sealant and wax will at least make it easier to remove but I'd like to know what it is.

        Re: white dots invasion

Thanks for input! I tried Body Solvent - it did not work at all, i mean not even one dot came off, i got bottle of NXTwax, so i'll try SimpleGreen+vinegar+NXT solution, see what happens as i suppose is the only way besides polishing. I will update with results.

PS. possible cause may be also white wood primer particles flying out the vent at the shop where i work, (as well as furniture paint polish and compound), weird thing they would fall only on my car :/ no other car has it, at least not that noticeable. Its a hard call right now, to point true cause. 50/50

Have you tried Clay yet? If that doesn't work you could use a fine sandpaper (4000) and clear it that way. You'll be able to remove it from the paint and glass, but more than likely not anything else. I'd think about making a Comprehensive insurance claim which won't affect your rates. All the trim will need replacing.
