  • NXT vs M21

NXT and M21 are supposed to be very similar products, with the latter having been tweaked to allow application by rotary buffer. Those who have used both products typically say that they give similar looks, though some M21 users swear that they prefer the look created by M21.

But I have noticed one important difference in anecdotal reports about these two products. A certain proportion of NXT users encounter problems with streaking. These problems usually stem from user error--either the wax is applied too thick, or it is removed before it has fully dried, or both.

However, I rarely, if ever, read of similar problems with M21. It seems to be less finnicky. Perhaps this is because M21 users tend to be experienced detailers who already know how to properly apply various kinds of waxes, whereas many NXT users are beginners like myself and are just learning about waxing. But still I wonder. Do M21 users ever experience streaking problems with NXT? If not, why not? Is it possible that the lack of streaking with M21 is explained by the difference in chemical formulation? If this is so, then it seems to me that the superiority of M21 needs to be trumpeted a bit more loudly here on MOL.

    Re: NXT vs M21

If I recall, M21 did have a steaking issue early on, but it was quickly resolved. I've used M21 in 1.0 and 2.0 forms, and I truly believe this is Meguiar's "flagship" wax. M21 leaves the finish reflective, glossy, and smooth. In terms of longevity, I've never seen good longevity w/ NXT, but I have had M21 last 6+ months on my daily driver through a northern VT winter. If you haven't tired M21 yet, I would highly recommend adding a sampler to your next order from ADS.

I have read similar reports as you, and for that I keep wanting to order m21...but I still have a lot of m20 left (1/2 gal) that I want to use up first.

Rarely do I get any streaking with NXT.

But I have found that the surface has to be in almolst immaculate shape in order for NXT not to streak.

By the time that you use up 1/2 gal of m20, m21 4.0 will be out

#20 was my favorite wax/sealant before #21 came out. I feel that, on my vehicles at least, #21 leaves a glossier finish. The hydrophobic polymer technology of 21 2.0 puts the icing on the cake.

I've been looking hard over my streaking problem and I seem to only get streaking if I use it after UC or something with polishing oils in it....????

And yea I have a ton of m20 lol

i dont really use nxt anymore but when i did, i found that the only way to not get streaking was by waiting at least twice as long as you would expect before removing the wax, possibly even longer.

I never haf a problem when doing it by hand, but that's when I didn't use anything with polishing oils. Just wash/dry, clay, wax.

When I first switched over to #21. I experienced occasional streaking. It was due to operator error. Once I figured it out, it has been smooth sailing. (knock on wood)

I haven't had streaking with either but I haven't used nxt in awhile; I've had much better luck with the 21 in terms of appearance. For those with a bunch of 20 left, try that topped with 21. This is by far my fave formula to date.
