  • Dog hair removal

Just curious what some of you use to get rid of dog/cat hair. Did a Dodge Journey today and it a ton of dog hair on the backs of the rear seats (cargo area so not floor carpet but that stuff in the cargo areas). It was stuck to the black carpet and took forever to get (most) of it out. Tried vacuum, wire brush, extractor, duct tape, packing tape, compressed air, so-called-pet-hair-removel brush and so-called-pet-sticky sheets (like a giant piece of packing tape) none worked very well but all together one way or another got the job 98% done. Any tips?

I have had some luck when vacuuming household carpets if I spray a diluted liquid fabric softener first, and let sit a minute, then vacuum. Seems to get a bit more that way, at least.

But I would think after all that, you are left with the dug in stuff, not just the static clingy hair that I think the fabric softener is for.

      Re: Dog hair removal

My dogs have travelled with me for years, and I think I've tried everything that you mentioned with no success.

I have found that along with everything else in my arsenal, some kind of hand vacuum with rotating brushes is a MUST for me. I had always used small hand held Dirt Devil, which worked fine, but more recently I picked up a hand held Shark like the one here:

Works great for the flat cargo areas, the rotating brushes get all the hair out. Then it's got the attachment brush and crevace tool for other areas.

So, any small vacuum with rotating brushes would be my recommendation.

I have not tried this. I have read on the forums of people using a nitrile glove. While wearing the glove rub your hand over the area. Allegedly it sweeps the hair into a pile. Thus the pet hair removal is a breeze.

I use a Meguiars dog hair removal brush (I'm not sure if they still make this) and my rigid shop vac. The tool does a pretty good job of pulling up the hair. I use the shop vac at that same time and vacuum up the hair as it is pulled up by the tool. Tool in one hand and vacuum in the other.

I vacuum up what I can then take a cheap disposable lint roller and go to town. You can find them for a $1 at Target.

Agree with the lint roller. But I also have used a lightly damped cheap microfiber towel (not the good meguiars supreme shine), and rubbed it over the carpet. That has worked for me in a few instances.
