  • Layering a Wax

I've read that in order to layer a wax you have to wait 24 hours between coats of wax.

I just talked to a detailer in the area who said that they put on three coats of wax in one detailing session, one immediatly the other. He seems to think that this puts on three coats of wax, is this true and what does meguiars reccommend? Thanks.

I've tried to layer 4 coats of NXT with 12-24 hours curing time in between. I've just gotten this experiment during the holiday season.

I believe some detailers do not subscribe to the layering theory because of the concept of "diminishing returns." The subsequent coats you applied may have a diminishing effect on the looks as oppose to your first coat, however, additional protection may be achieved.

Another thing to consider is that NXT has some mild chemical (as oppose to abrasives) cleaners which may strip of your previous coats of the same.

Premise considered, I've done my own process and layered up to 4 coats of NXT and determine the point where another coat just doesn't add any good looks. I need to let every coat to cure for 12-24 hours in order that the synthetic polymers (they say E.S.P.) may set up and fully bond with my clear coat, in this way, even if NXT has some mild cleaners, it wont strip off at least 80%-70% of the previous coats.

That's the reason why I have to wait that long in between coats, else you're just wasting a fair amount of your precious NXT by adding another coat where the previous coat does not yet bond with your CC, and the subsequent coats just strip the previous ones.

Hope this finds simple logic. It's just me!
