  • Deep crystal polish not working

I have a Dodge Ram with dark gray graphite metallic paint. The paint is in excellent shape and I have already used the clay bar system and followed with Swirl X. I started to use the deep crystal polish but noticed no difference at all. I tried with a DA and by hand with a foam applicator pad. No matter what angle I look at I cannot notice any difference. Do some paints just not take to a polish that well? Should I just move onto the NXT 2.0 and skip the polish? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Pure polishes are a tricky business.

Pure polishes work the best on single stage paint and fairly older clear coats. Single stage paints are more porous than modern clear coats, so they are more receptive to a pure polish. Older clear coats after proper cleaning of the paint will also be more receptive to pure polishes because they are deprived of oils that get replenished back into the paint when you apply a polish.

Of course, darker colored cars over lighter colored cars will have more an effect with polish. When it comes down to it, if you take care of your car and keep it well maintained, the polish really won't have a dramatic difference on your finish.

Go straight to the NXT 2.0 if you don't notice a difference. Hope this helps!

We always consider a pure polish to be an optional step, and with the advent of clear coat paint systems it has become even more optional.

Remember, a pure polish is not going to correct any defects like fine swirls, etc. One of my own vehicles is the same Chrysler Graphite Metallic color as your Ram and applying a pure polish to it will only slightly darken the appearance.

NXT Tech Wax 2.0 contains some polish as well, which further strengthens the "optional" part of using a pure polish.

If, on the other hand, you're chasing the best possible gloss level on the Ram, then by all means give M205 Ultra Finishing Polish a shot. Apply it with a finishing pad on your DA at speed 4 and work it for a good, long time. That Graphite Metallic paint loves it, and will look deep and wet with plenty of flake pop after a thorough working of M205. Great stuff.

Top that with NXT and enjoy!
