  • Adding water spots for testing!

I just went to the junk yard few days ago and bought a black hood to start practicing on. I want to add water spots to the hood to work on techniques to get them off. I left the hood outside and every so often sprayed water on it and let it bake off. After 3 days I still don't have any water spots!

So everyone here is good at removing water spots... how can i add them?!

Spray on some APC and water. Let it sit in the sun without removing. That should do it.

Your problem is likely your water source. Different locations will have vastly different amounts of salts and other minerals. Some are hard, some are soft.

Try borrowing some water from a friend's outdoor hose.

You could also try some chemical staining. Take some fairly corrosive household products such as bleach, mold and mildew remover, etc and put them on it small droplets and see if it stains the clear.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.

Thanks. I will try all that and let you know if anything worked.

Would you be willing to travel to New England? You can try on my car :-)

Go to your local Pet store that sells Saltwater fish and ask them for a small jar of saltwater and use that, there are lots of minerals and other stuff in the water that should make a nice stain for you
