Are these the same thing? I mean, can you use an air operated DA sander as a DA polisher? Or is the RPM's too much? I had thought abotu getting a DA sander at harbor freight and thought about purchasing one.

Re: Question about DA sanders/polishers
Yep a DA polisher and a DA sander are the same thing, BUT not all DA's are created equal. I'm sure the Harbor Freight sander will work if it's variable speed, not as well as a Porter Cable or Meg's, but it should still work.
When comparing them look at the 'throw', the amount of lateral movement, the pad makes in the rotation. That's one of the factors that sets the PC and Megs apart from the others. 1/8" if IRC correctly is the standard to look for. Most go 1/16". Shorter throw means more work, less polish and greater chance of holograms.

Re: Question about DA sanders/polishers
As stated, a pneumatic DA sander and the Meguiar's DA Polisher have the same "action".
Actually, the Meguiar's D/A Polisher's orbit is 5/16"....
There are variety of orbits when getting a pneumatic DA "sander", so if you wish to stick with "swirl removal" and "wax application" stick with a 5/16" orbit and you will be fine. That is assuming, you have the air to operate itMike Pennington
