  • Paint on plastic rubbed off

some of the "paint" on my interior plastic is rubbing off--some on the glove compartment door and side panel. Does anyone know if this can be fixed?

The other day there was some kind of liquid on my glove compartment, and when i wiped it off, it took off a layer of the paint from the plastic revealing black underneath! what happened?

How old is the vehicle and what, if anything, has been used to protect the interior through its life?

Any idea what the liquid was that took the color off the glove box?

It is a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. I have NO idea what the liquid was. and generally I use McGuires Supreme Shine Protectant to protect the interior.

The Crossfire has silver paint on much of the interior plastic, but I'm not familiar with any paint on the glove box door (I own a 2005 Crossfire roadster, by the way so I'm quite familiar with them). I've been using Natural Shine on my interior since I bought the car new and never had a problem. I don't use it on the painted plastic pieces, of course, as it's not designed for that surface. Still, that product alone wouldn't damage the paint on the plastic.

It does seem, according to guys on the Crossfire forum, that the silver paint on the console and center stack is prone to damage but that's more a function of the materials used production than anything you're applying to it. But if you're losing color from the dark gray vinyl of the glove box door, door panels, dash, etc then there's something else going here.

Any chance you can post an image or two?
