  • Taping off sections

Hey guys I was wondering if it's ok to use masking tape on modern clear coat finishes?

You sure can, but choose your tape carefully. You don't want cheap stuff that might leave a lot of residue behind so most people go for the 3M blue painter's tape. It's a bit pricey for that application and Meguiar's has recently introduced a line of masking tape specifically for detailing.

Buy the dedicated painters tape. Be safe.

And stick with name brand tape. I use either 3M or Scotch. 3M is what I use most, tho. I used some cheap blue painters tape and it left tons of residue. I spent forever getting the residue off everything. Pain in the rear!!
