  • About to get Going

I am about to make my initial purchase with ADS! I am going for the Start Up Package plus High Tech eraser sponge, 2 Grit Guards, and 3 extra Water Magnet Towels. I'm thinking there are probably some things that you guys know that every detailer should have in their arsenal for convenience. I'm wondering what those are as it relates to backing plates and pads. Also anything else you may think of. I have this Chicago rotary for now that has a 5/8"-11 TPI spindle. Thanks in advance!

      That's a good start.
I would add more pad, polishing and finishing

It's strange that no one replied to this quickly. I personally couldn't go without my Boars hair wheel brush, and my lambs wool wash mitt.
Of course a quality car soap as well. Cheaper MF towels are always handy.
And right before I left, I really started to love M#40. It leaves a great shine on your interior pieces, and leaves a great, like new smell.
All Season Dressing, is also a must for me. I dress everything from the engine bay, to the tires with that stuff.

          Hope that this helps!

All Season Dressing is a solvent based dressing and it's not recommended to be used on the engine bay compartment.

If you're going with the Pro Detailer Start Up Package then do yourself a favor and get a bunch of extra pads. That kit looks fantastic, but it is sorely lacking in pad count. You can't have too many pads or microfiber towels.

Bumping this because I am curious as a newb... I made the mistake of only ordering one of each pad in the Edge 2000 system:

Red (not listed, but even finer than White)
                White
                Blue
                Green
                Yellow

For the wknd warrior... which pad(s) should I have multiples of for when I want to do one car on the wknd? I'm worried I'll start on my GF's car and run out of one type of pad as I correct her paint and leave the job half done.

                Thoughts?

Actually the Edge 2000 pads are double sided... so I guess my count stands at:

2 x Red (not listed, but even finer than White)
                  2 x White
                  2 x Blue
                  2 x Green
                  2 x Yellow

Is this enough to finish off your average car b4 u cake up your pads too much?

The pads people use the most on a DA are the polishing pad, which is blue in your case, or a step up at light cutting or green on the edge system. So if you wanted to buy an extra one or two of those you would't have to clean the pads so much on the fly or taking time out to wash them.

I would think 2 of each double sided would be enough to do a car. If the pad gets too much moisture on it you can press a terry towel into it to get some of the moisture out. Since the Edge pads have no velcro backing, you might be able to machine wash them, but I'd go by the factory recommendations on how to clean them.

They would probably have to have the laminated backing in order to be machine washable. I agree with Mary S., wash per the manufacturer's instructions.
