  • Headlights w/ no sandpaper or wool pad...

I have to(hopefull) clear up a buddies headlight on his Passat. I notice a lot of folks like to sand the headlight down, and follow with a wool pad. The problem is I have neither of those products. I do have these products Im hoping can help.

    M105/205
    PlasticX
    M80
    D151

    Red/Yellow/Burgandy 4 and 7 inch pads.

I will test these out tonight, and wanted to get input on anyone who has done it with these products or others. THanks

You can just use the PlasticX on the 4'' yellow pad on the DA and you will get the job done. But in case you get a headlight that its so fogged up that you cant even see the bulb inside, then you need to sand.

you can also do a quick pass of M205 after the plasticX.

Hope i helped and it goes great.

I did a set of pretty bad, but not terrible, head lights with 105 by D/A and a polishing pad. Then I followed that with PlastX and a foam applicator by hand. Check out this write-up to see the lights before/after. I could've gotten way more correction if I would've used a 4" instead of a 7" pad but didn't at the time.http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42461

You probably will laugh, but I was watching "Trucks" I think over last weekend, and the guy used toothpaste and got pretty good results. He used an abrasive paste like the kind that has baking soda in it for whitening and an air powered polisher.....

30 second application of 3M Finish Restore- I've now had the same result with PlastX.

              Before:

              After one pass:

I did 3 passes, total of about 5 minutes worth of work.

Now, they weren't completely hazed, but were pretty gone.

Make sure you protect them ofter with some product- you're taking off the UV protective coating in the process. Unless you wax/protect, they will haze/yellow again.

Turns out the headlight was fogged up from the inside. Bust

I saw that episode some time ago. I got a good laugh. Wasn't too surprised it worked, tho.

Toothpaste has silica in it. That is what gives it the abrasive qualities.

bummer that they were fogged on the inside. Plast-x by hand works very well.
