  • Matte texture trim

What can I use to take off a scratch made on my exterior plastic matted trim around the windsheild? I tried scratching with my nail something stuck on there. They are light white scratches. Armor all helps for a while then fades. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you use something to remove the scratch, you'll most likely make the matte look shinier in that area; you may be better off re-painting the piece.

      Re: Matte texture trim

Removing a scratch literally means to remove some surrounding material down to the bottom of the scratch. Remember, the scratch itself is missing material (whether that be paint, plastic, chrome, etc) so you don't, and can't, actually remove what isn't there.

As Jimbo points out, the act of leveling that surrounding material is going to level the matte texture and create some level of gloss. So instead of a small, confined scratch you'll have a larger, shinier area. If the piece can be removed from the vehicle and spray painted you may be better off. Or you could even try touching up the spot with some paint and a very fine artists brush. Unfortunately, scratches in matte or textured material are almost impossible to fully remove.
