  • I waxed.... wrong?

Ok, so about a week ago I clayey my car and waxed it with a coat of cleaner wax, and then a coat of nxt 2.0 wax. Did the whole car and then wiped wax off between each.

Did all this in the garage... when I pulled out the car the next day I could see uneven spots all over the car, I thought I had damaged the paint somehow, but I think I just didn't get the wax all the way off... as it moved around when you wipe over it. I have gone over it about 4 times since then with ultimate detailer and it has gotten better but I still see spots on it in the sun, seems like it's different areas each time I go over it; I think it's gone and the next day I see it again in a different spot (or the same spots again)

What did I do wrong here? Not leave the wax on long enough or what? Also will this go away on it's own in time (using the ultimate detailer on it)?

    Thanks,

Personnaly I think NXT is effected by humidity and temperature more than some other waxes. I've had cars that look perfect afterward and then I've had some that had leftover areas everywhere. They just kept popping up, much like it sounds like yours did. Unfortunately I haven't found the answer as to why. You just have to keep changing the lighting and angles to try and find all of the spots.

Was you wax application day a cool one?

As long as it will eventually go away I guess... so you think it was the nxt 2.0 wax? Maybe I'll just do 2 coats of cleaner wax next time.

It sounds like you either didn't let the NXT dry fully, applied it too heavy, or a combination of the two.

A very thin coat is important with any wax and it really only takes a couple of ounces of a liquid wax to cover a full sized American sedan (think Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus, Cadillac STS). With NXT it's best to apply the product to all painted surfaces of the car and then give it another 20 minutes or more to dry. Lower temps and higher humidity will prolong drying time, as will a heavier application. Your temps sound great so we're thinking thickness and dry time are what likely caused this issue.

A properly thin coat of wax should still wipe off with almost no effort even an hour after applying it.

Thanks for the info, I tried to put it on as thin as I could, and it came off fairly easily, but I didn't wait after putting it on (although it did take me probably an hour to do the whole car)

          guess it wasn't dry :/

Just hope it goes away before too long, heh.

Were you using the liquid version or the paste version? Personally, I get better results from the liquid version than the paste version, and I find it easier to work with.

              Used liquid.

Ok, I just spend about 30 minutes trying to get this stuff of my hood... with no luck, it's just being spread around, I notice that wherever I press down harder it creates a lighter spot, it's almost like a super thin coat of grease. I don't think the wax adhered to my clearcoat and is just being moved around :/

Do you guys think going over it with cleaner wax again would fix it? Or just make it worse?

I wish I had never waxed it, i made my car look a lot worse by waxing it, lol.

                Re: I waxed.... wrong?

I would do the cleaner wax again for a remedy. I've had complications with dark streaks anytime I've applied wax (Gold Class or m21, which is Nxt 2.0 right?) too thick, or not let it dry. For my remedy, with no cleaner wax on hand, I've just gone around with MF to get the streaky spots; but once the spots become only 30% visible I used Last Touch 1:1 to lube up the wax and MF, this seemed to help speed up the process.

Hmmm, very interesting. I have no idea what is going on, but it sure sounds like you didn't give NXT sufficient time to dry before buffing.

I like your idea of first going back over the car with Cleaner Wax. Wash your car. Apply a thin coat of Cleaner Wax. Wait for it to haze--do the SWIPE TEST--and then buff off. And then see what it looks like. I suspect it will clear up your problem completely.

Afterwards, you will then need to decide whether to top it with something. If you decide to top it with NXT, apply it thin and give it plenty of time to dry. Mike has suggested at least 20 minutes. You might even want to wait 30 minutes, just to be sure. (I have yet to read anyone having problems buffing off NXT after waiting 45 minutes, but I have read many testimonies of folks who had problems waiting only 5-10 minutes.)

I'll give it a shot... btw my wax was a little thicker than described above, but not as heavy as the "Far too heavy" example in the link. I did a swipe test (and passed) as well and it was at least an hour between when I applied and removed the wax :/

I would echo the above thoughts. Wash then go with the cleaner wax. Then the NXT. wait sufficiently for the wax to dry. Do the swipe test. Then apply your nxt. Should solve all your problems.
