  • Ultimate Compound dust/residue.....

I'm using Ulimate Compund with my G110V2 and it's leaving alot of small dust/residue behind even after I wipe it down with a MF towel. I plan to apply #7 Show Car Glaze next, then NXT 2.0.

Do I need to clear ALL of the dust prior to appyling the polish or will it be ok if there is a little bit left behind? If not do I need to wash the car prior to applying or what's the best way to remove it? Thanks!

Some people will do a second wash after using UC if a lot of dust was created. You could also take some detail spray and wipe down the panels. I would make sure though that all of the dust is off of the panels before applying M07 as to not instill swirls.

I would go ahead and wash the car again before applying a pure polish or your choice of wax or paint sealant.

When washing the car again, try and blast all the cracks and crevices with water to get all the polishing dust out of there.

I also would not just wipe off polishing dust with just a microfiber towel, you may induce swirls and scratches.

Here is another vote for washing. Why not? The dust is everywhere.

Another vote for just washing again.

On my last detail with the Ultimate Compound I just used my california car duster and used light pressure to dust off and then used compressed air to get the remaining off and out from around the rubber window sills and the like also a fast wipe down with last touch diluted 1:1 worked for me, don't really care for doing a second wash to the same vehicle unless no other choice!

If you are getting a lot of dust I would ask if you are working the product too long. You should not be working this dry. The idea is to work in small sections at a time and wipe up the surface while still wet. Inspect and move on overlapping sections as you go. I occasionally use a 50/50 IPA wipe to see if the swirls are really gone. I get very little polish dust and what little is left I can easily wipe up with a QD.

Hi! Would someone out there be so kind as to give directions on the proper way to use Ultimate Compound... putting on, taking off, remove it *before* it dries, etc? I plan on doing a car in the near future that will need this product. There's some confusion on my part on the proper use of it. Sorry! Thank you!

                          Re: Ultimate Compound dust/residue.....

I was freaking out about all the dust that 105 kicked up for me; and really even some 205 when I did my first 2 vehicles. Since then, I've changed my technique and have had much less dusting issues. Now, as stated above, there's only a small amount of dust and it can be easily wiped with a damp (LT 1:1) MF. Cleaning my pads on the fly more often, and working the 105 for about 1/2 the time as before seemed to really help. Additionally, I realized that I was trying to do really small areas with a huge pad! I observed that anytime my 7" pad wasn't completely flat and 90 degrees to the surface I would get dust. Careful about hitting trim pieces, door handles, even going over the top of your masking (painter's) tape causes way more dust than you should experience. This is probably common knowledge, but I didn't realize it at first so maybe it'll help you!
