  • UQD on New Paint

I learned from this forum that I should not wax fresh paint for 90 days. I can only WASH and POLISH (DC2).

How about UQD? Can I apply UQD to fresh paint?

      OK.

So I can wash and also DC1 and DC2, right?
      Also, how about SwirlX?

If you are looking for a quick detailer that you may use, pick yourself up a bottle of M34 Final Inspection. It is body-shop safe.

You can glaze fresh paint, but thats it in terms of "protecting" it

#07 comes to mind but there are others if you aren't limited to just Meguiars products

I am surprised that SiwrlX is OK for fresh paint. The primary purpose of SwirlX is to remove swirls and light scratches. I understand that there is some abrasive material in SwirlX, would this hurt the new paint?

Do DC1 and DC2 contain abrasive materials also?

I am limited to Meguiars products because they are the only brand I use to maintain my car. I know they work because my car looks brand new and it's 5 years old !!!

                Re: UQD on New Paint

The only problem with fresh paint is that it needs to sufficiently cure for 30-90 days. This is why waxing and/or sealing the paint is not recommended as it will not allow the paint to dry properly. UQD/M135 lay a very small layer of protection behind which makes them NOT body shop safe. As said before M34 is body safe as it does not leave behind a coat of protection, it is purely a mist-and-wipw detailer.

Secondly, using a compound on fresh paint is not a problem. In fact, using a compound on fresh paint is often needed to refine the finish and rid it of any orange peel. They will usually wet-sand and then compound the fresh paint. Compounds allow the paint to breathe and cure properly becasue they do not leave behind a protective coating and are body-shop safe.

DC1 does have very mild Diminishing Abrasives (less than Swirlx) and DC2 is a pure polish indicating no abrasives at all.

                  Re: UQD on New Paint

Unfortunately, I do not have any Ultra-Cut Compound or Ultimate Compound. It is not easy to get the "non-common" Meguiars products in Toronto.

I do have DC1, DC2 and SwirlX. What do you suggest the best product to maintain this fresh paint (only the front fender)?
