On the Meguiars Chrome Polish it states that newer rims are clear coated. With that in mind, does anyone out here clay their rims? Is it that much better than spraying and using tire cleaner? Does anyone know when they started clear coating the rims?

Most factory/OEM wheels these days from all manufacturers are clear-coated, and have been for some time, since the 90's....many aftermarket wheels, especially chrome ones, are NOT clear-coated.
I have used an old piece of clay in the past to clay the wheels on my old man's car - helped to get rid of a couple of tar spots on the inside of the rim - but generally speaking I've always found if you're regularly cleaning the wheels using a decent wheel cleaner and some car wash solution with a dedicated wheel wash mitt, you won't have any problems and the clay won't be necessary... -

If you clay your rims. That clay has just become dedicated for your rims. Never use it for the paint. A lot of us have clayed the rims.quality creates its own demandComment
