  • Clay question???

    Hi guys,

I've searched the forum regarding this question but to no avail. Forgive me for my ignorance, just curious....

Can kids "play clay" be used for clay detailing on a car? I have never felt detailing clay but judging from videos on the Meguiars website, it appears to be similar in appearance and ductility as play clay.

    regards,
    Malcolm

    Re: Clay question???

The two types of clay are quite different. Automotive detailing clay is actually a mildly abrasive material (varying levels of abrasiveness, actually, depending on requirements) that is specifically designed to gently and safely remove bonded surface contaminants. It's quite likely that not only would a child's "play clay" not perform this task sufficiently, but that it would break down and/or fall apart when used this way. It also tends to be too "sticky" and will likely end up smearing or sticking to the paint. You're definitely better off sticking with a true auto detailing clay for this purpose.

Detailing clay has a consistency more like silly putty. Not suggesting that you use that, just giving you a frame of reference.

Thanks Michael and William for the heads up. Was not planning on using the play stuff on my cars, just got me thinking...that's all. The only thing that touches my cars these days is Meguiars :-)
