Well im going to spend the money to get a rotary even though I just got laid off from my regular job. I have a G1100 been using that for a year. I want to step it up a notch, and go for the rotary and start doing this regulary while I am laid off. Would just like some suggestions on which rotary people like, and what else you need to get with them, like do they come with everything so I can just buy some foam pads and such or do I have to buy a different backing plate? Any input is great. Oh and superior shine I see you have quite the collection info from you would be great or if you have any extras that are in good working condition you want to sell I would appreciate it thanks

Re: Which rotary & supplies to buy
Man, I really hesitate to do this (I have NEVER said this on any forum, anywhere), but.......... use the search function to look this topic up as it has been discussed almost to death. Tool choice can be very personal, but the top rated rotaries are the usual suspects: DeWalt and Makita, with Hitachi and Porter Cable also offering fine alternatives.
You will need a backing plate, and if you're using our Soft Buff 2.0 pads on your D/A then getting a W68 plate will let you quickly switch those pads from one tool to the other - yes, you can use the same pads on the rotary that you currently use on your D/A.Michael Stoops

Re: Which rotary & supplies to buy
Yeah Michael I know its been discussed a million times, but I guess I should of asked differently, I wanted to know which rotarys have what, as far as backing plates and such. Like if I was to buy a makita or dewalt or Hitachi would I have to buy that backing plate, or could I use the one on the DA or are the DA and the rotary different size where they screw in? so before getting rude I guess read the whole thing first

Re: Which rotary & supplies to buy
The Makita 9227c comes with a backing plate and a couple of pads, but you'll want to pick up some pads a bit more specific to your needs. The backing plate can still be used, but there are probably better backing plates out there. Still, you can buy the tool and just pop one of our pads (or one of our competitors pads) onto the supplied backing plate. Backing plates are not interchangeable between rotaries and D/As since the two types of tools have different mounting methods. But rotaries like the Makita, DeWalt, Hitachi, Porter Cable, etc all should have a 5/8" arbor so they're pretty universal.Michael Stoops
