  • Getting scratches out of chrome trim?

My wife's CX-9 has chrome trim all around the windows. It had some sort of weird oxidation on it that appeared to be surface rust that normal washing/wiping couldn't remove. So, I did a test spot with some #0000 steel wool and rubbed gently and it removed it. While detailing her car this weekend, I did the rest of the chrome trim using #0000 steel wool and for a lube/polish I used Meg's Hot Rim Chrome Polish. It worked great, and the chrome trim really shines now! But, I've noticed in a few spots there are scratches now on the chrome, especially where I had to rub a little harder to remove the spots.

Is there a way to go back and polish this up as to get rid of the scratches?

Try going back over the areas with Hot Rims Chrome Polish and a foam applicator instead of the #0000 steel wool. You may not be able to clear these scratches up completely, depending on how deep they are, but you should be able to minimize their appearance.

Keep in mind that the chrome finish on these plastic trim pieces is not exactly the same as, for example, a chrome plated bumper. It may well be softer and thinner, so proceed with caution.

Okay, I'll give it a try. The scratches are really fine, so I should be able to at least minimize them.

      Thanks!
