  • California car dusters yes or no?

    I have a black car.
It shows the dust two hours after washing and detailing it.
I used to use a California car duster years ago, but I have heard
    mixed reviews about it.

I am sorry, i'm sure this topic has probably been covered here a million times,
    I just didn't see it. : (

    Thank You

Yes, Safe to use. Just make sure you are just lightly letting it touch the paint. Also store it in the bag or somewhere safe. Don't let it hit the floor and get crud in it. I just used one on my truck this week and always carry it with me.

Regularly use one. Follow the above tips and you will be fine.

Never wash one. It messes up the paraffin wax that is on them.

Agreed. Just go gently, and don't use if the car is too dirty. Only for light dust.
If in doubt, I just wash the car!

I been using the same one for several years now and I haven't noticed any self inflicted defects while using it.

My car gets it every other day and I'm satisfied with the results.

How about microfiber duster? It can pick up dust and can be washed.

They're indispensable. One thing I've learned is to shake it after each panel. I hang it down at my side and quickly rotate my wrist and it snaps it clean much better than merely shaking it. Mine's ten years old, filthy brown, but it still works great.

I use a CD too and love it. I've been using mine for about six months and have found that using it and QD on the regular cuts way down on my detailing chores. Of course, the reduced times only apply when the weather has been nice. If we get any rain or other wet weather messing up the roads, the car is too dirty of CD or QD and has to be washed.

Do you guys find the parrafin wax leaves streaks on the paintwork?

I do, so I'll only use the CD if I'm going to QD straight afterwards.

It stops doing that after it gets broken in. i.e. Brown n dirty. I sped mine up by rubbing it against an old bath towel.

I left mine open on the counter for several days (per the instructions) before using it and didn't have that problem.

I found that using it in very cold weather left streaks. Otherwise, it's been fine.

i had one that used to streak, then I read the instructions it came with. If you let it sit overnight on a piece of newspaper, excess wax will wick away into the paper and in the morning the duster will be perfect for dusting. I need to buy a new one because one day I decided it'd be ok to use it on the wheels and there's brake dust in mine now and it's a bit scratchy.

^^ Awesome, thanks for the tip!

I've got the Meg's body duster and I'm quite sure it didn't come with those instructions...
