  • Deep stained tires

What are you guys using for deeply stained tires? As you might guess from some of my pictures, this is a dirty and muddy place. So my car and others routinely gets very dirty. Soap and water and a stiff tire brush doesn't do the job. So I am looking for a products that will aid in getting my tires back to black. Any ideas?

    Re: Deep stained tires

Are they brown? Not mud brown but a off-black discolored brown? Usually that is from a silicone based tire dressing, although the silicone last longer that its solvent based brother it does turn over time. A nice degreased or tire/wheel cleaner should clean it right off with a little scrubbing and a power washer. If no PW, then just use more scrubbing .

If the tires are another color, be sure to post it. I've seen some grey-ish tires that are just starving for some dressing because they are so dry. In this case the thick gel silicone dressings are your friend. Apply a tick layer and let sit for as long as possible, days are better than hours. I had a set of nice wheels I pulled off for the winter, cleaned them up and dressed them, and then set it the shop for the months. When I finally when to re-install them the black lasted for a good few months, no amount of scrubbing and degreasing could fully remove the dressing that had soaked into the tire. Obviously you won't have months to let dressing sit, I was just letting you know what can happen .

I tend to use APC and a brush to clean mine.

I've been digging the Hot Shine Tire foam lately. I like it because it just sprays on and I don't have to scrub or anything. My tires aren't excessively stained though. It's just the normal grime that accumulates every couple weeks.

APC 4:1 with a foaming sprayer head, followed by a a tire brush dipped in soap and water then agitated.

If I cleaned them and scrubbed them good using a stiff brush, gold class soapy solution, and water..this is what I get pre-dressing.

Well, all tires can look a little different when clean, its not as if they all become a uniform matte black.

But I would certainly try out APC or APC+... if you dont have it yet, you wont regret it, even if the tires turn out to already be pretty clean.

I guess I will try the APC+ I need to get some for interiors anyway. I went looking for some Meguiars professional carriers around here but they aren't around anymore. And they don't turn a brown color but rather, NEVER end up looking black. They looks as if I did not even touch them dirt wise. Maybe I am just being too anal about it.

This stuff works wonders. http://westleys.com/ But follow the instructions CAREFULLY! It can ruin your rims if they are aluminum....safe on clear-coated and painted rims.

                    Re: Deep stained tires

Use some APC with a foaming head sprayer and then follow it up with a tire dressing of your choice. A tire isn't going to stay looking black forever without some dressing. There are tons of different dressings offered by Meguiar's. Do you want a somewhat matte look or rather a shiny and wet look?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                    Remove swirls my friends.

I use Endurance. I like the gloss look, I was just wanting cleaner tires Before I applied dressing. Thanks for the replies people!

wesley's bleach white works wonders. and then use endurance gel with a small paint brush so your hands dont get messy.

I have had great success using the apc. Give it a try. Great on tires and a whole lot more.

If the wheels aren't waxed, try my old faithful Comet and a scrub brush. I did my wife's tires for the first time in over a year and the brownish foam removed gobs of old buildup. It ain't rocket science.

How are you diluting the soap, out of curiosity?
