  • Ultimate Quik Wax in cold weather

Last Saturday I went to the spray it yourself car wash place and rinsed the salt from last week's snow off of my vehicle. After I got home and got the twins to take a nap I did a two bucket wash with ONR. Since the girls were really enjoying their nap I thought I'd try to put some wax on. My garage is unheated (for now) so I put some NXT 2.0 on a small spot on the trunk lid and let it sit for a half hour. Tried to remove, still not set enough. Gave it about another half hour and no real change. I used some Quik Detailer and removed the failed wax attempt. I then got out UQW, primed a microfiber applicator and tried the other side of the trunk lid. After about two minutes I wiped it off and smiled! Yippee!! Winter waxing is possible. I did the rest of the car and called it a day. Sunday afternoon I put on another coat. FYI: Garage temperature both days was about 45 F and it was very damp.

Of course Monday AM I awoke to a heavy misty fog. Oh well it looked good and that wax beads like nobody's business.

When spraying with the high pressure hose at the car wash I kept the hose behind me and never got the sprayer closer than about 3 1/2 feet from the car, using the "rinse" setting. While waiting in line I watched a guy with a brand new red Camry (still had temp plates) go to town on his car with the dreaded brush.

    Sorry no pics, my bad.

At 45F and with high humidity you're sort of pushing the limits of what you can expect out of a wax. Still, if it's working for you, then more power to you. Smart move just doing a small area first though!!

We recommend not waxing if the temperature falls below the 50~55F range, because we know that performance can be compromised and the application/removal process can become difficult. Of course, that's a recommendation based on known properties of the product. We get plenty of calls from folks who have used a Meguiar's wax in the 45~55 degree range complaining that it was hard to use - we tell them that's we don't recommend waxing at that temp. But we also get plenty of calls from folks who found out AFTER they waxed in that temp range that we don't recommend it and they want to know if they've damaged anything. The product worked fine, but now they're worried. The good news, obviously, is that you can't actually hurt anything by applying a wax at these temps.

I did the same last week with the UQW and it was a little colder here but the UQW worked great, sprayed the whole car and gave it about 20 min to setup and Walla! Good Stuff

That's good to see that the UQW works well in cooler temps! I have not had a chance to try it in cooler temps yet. The best LSP I've seen for cooler temps is #20. It sets up very quickly, gives a highly reflective look, and has very good durability.

I'll be adding #20 to my Christmas shopping list. Thanks
