  • question about gettin car washed

where i live it is getting cold so i had to put my hose in but before i did i washed clayed and put 2 coats a nxt2.0 on my car and since then i have maintained it with UQD and UQW but right now my car is a little to dirty for UQD and i was wondering about when i go to get my car washed should i just there base package which is just a wash or should i get one of there other packages which comes with polish(it says) and wax?? Either way i had planned on taking my car home and applying a layer of UQW!! and since i live around the corner from the car wash i am not even gonna let them dry it and how much wax do u think there car wash will remove, should i take the car home and put 2 more coats of nxt on??until the warmer weather comes wheneva i need my car washed will have to get it washed, so should i just get it washed and then go home and just put some UQW??

I wouldn't utilize the services of a car wash, but that is just me, and I think a lot of other peeps, die hard wash & wax wackos on this site would prefer to keep their vehicles themselves as well.

Do you have a self car wash where you live? You know the kind that is nothing but a pressure wand. That way, you could get the majority of the debris off, so you can bring it back home, and then you could then use the instant detailer on it.

If you don't have a self car wash where you live, then I would suggest busting out the hose, rinsing the car off, and or wash it to your liking, and then use the instant detailer.

You don't have to use the instant detailer on the lower extremitys of your vehicle. The lower extremitys of the vehicle will have the most debris attatched to it, so if it were me, I'd just let the lower extremitys go until I had time, or the desire to perform a thorough washing/cleansing of the entire vehicle. You could just concentrate on the upper extremitys of the vehicle...like the trunk deck, the hood, and the upper extremitys of the side panels (doors, quarters ect.).

The weather will be good where you are tomorrow...

It's gonna hit 60-62 where I live tomorrow

Although the San Francisco Bay is expecting 12-15 ft swells, right now the swells are 10-13 ft, & is expected to peak to 12-15 ft swells at 10-15 second intervals. THE ARRIVAL OF THIS SWELL TRAIN WILL COINCIDE WITH A HIGH TIDE OF 6.1 FEET AT 11:07 AM THIS MORNING. SOME SWELL SETS COULD REACH AS HIGH AS 15 TO 17 FEET DURING THE DAY.

What about doing it yourself with ONR. You could mix it with warm water and take care of things yourself. Then you can continue to do your maintenance program as you have been. No worries about the car wash removing wax.

I would either hold off on the wash until warmer weather (I am in the same location and facing the same problem) or go to coin-op hose. I know there is one, probably of low quality on the corner of Flatbush and Kings Highway.

Re: question about gettin car washed

IF you go to a car wash, find a touchless one and just get the basic wash - you dont want their cheap wax to seal in dirt they did not get off.

The end result is similar to (but not quite as good) as what you would get going to a self-wash and using a pressure wand (NOT brush) to spray-wash and then spray-rinse and then a light non-pressure final rinse (to sheet-off the water). And, THEN go home and use UQD to carefully ensure everything is really clean, and then booster the existing wax with UQW or apply a fresh coat of actual wax. If you are unsure how harsh their wash detergent is, you probaly need to do an actual WAX at home and not just a UQW boost.

In most cases, I find that I can go to my local self-wash and just use a pressure-SPRAY (no wash detergent) to get off most of the dirt, and then can just quickly UQD+UQW. If I know I am going to go home and re-WAX, then I pressure-WASH and spray-rinse before the home re-WAX. Works just fine for me throughout the whole winter.

Do the car wash thing -- either touchless or coin-op. Then use the ONR using warm water. I think that this would be a lot safer than using any type of QD

Both ONR (and QEW) have shown that they work and leave no marring. Why mess with other methods?
