  • Any tips on detailing motorcycle engine / metal bits?

While I have my bike apart I'd like to detail while I've got everything exposed.

    After moving I currently have:

a drill, some buffing wheels, diff. compounds, carb cleaner, carb dip, and a ton of Meguiar's cleaning products.

How do I handle all that slotted aluminum on this air cooled engine? I realize the bike looks good already - I want it took like AS GOOD as it can.

It's my 1979 Suzuki GS55L with 7,300 miles so I'd like it to keep looking young.

(can I wax the chrome fenders to protect them?)

All Metal Polish and plenty of swabs or something to get into those slots. The metal polish will protect so there's no need to wax the brightwork, just the paint.

    A 79 with 7300 miles.

My bikes a 10 footer, from 10 feet away it looks ok but the previous owner either dropped it, or was wearing shoes with spikes all over them because my clear-coated aluminum engine covers are all scratched up.. I'm thinking about sanding them all down to remove clear, and trying to polish them.. people do it all the time with great success but I get frustrated easily so I'm not sure I can handle getting in that deep.

I've only owned it for a week so trust me, I will be putting many many more miles on it!!
