difference between chrome polish and uc

Can someone tell me what the difference between using Meg's chrome polish and using ultimate compound. I understand the diffence that one is for paint and the other is for chrome. I had my Wife's Cousins Husband, watch while I applied Meg's chrome polish and then uc to chrome bumber on My '64 Bel Air, and we could not tell the difference. Can someone help me out on what makes the difference.

I am not sure what kind of ingredients are in the metal polishes, but it does seem as though the SMAT products are narrowing the gap, and work well on metals. The #105 has been mentioned a lot on metals.

I have even tried it on chromed plastic parts with no noticeable difference. This is good news, but bad at the sametime. Bad by the fact that I may have to buy new chrome pieces when I get the car painted. OUCH!!!!
