Hey guys ,its been awhile since i been on here, but i have a black mustang and its hard to keep up and i have a couple of questions...I clayed bar the car with the Reg meguiars clay kit, and after i ran my hand threw i could still "hear" like sand paper sound" not bad like that but i could still here it.. Am i not using a strong enough clay bar? second, i used colorX to bring back the shine Oils in the paint again and by hand..Is there a easyer way to do this like the G10? im not really experianced with a buffer, but doing this by hand is nuts lol also is there a better pruduct then colorX? or i should be adding to colorX or using somthin? else thanks guys..

Re: Got Some Questions..
It could be because of the type of surface your car has. I noticed with my father's car that he had the front bumper repainted and it seemed to be a single stage painting. This area always felt rough no matter how much I clayed it...

Re: Got Some Questions..
ColorX is a cleaner/wax, so it will clean/polish/protect in one step. Doesnt get much easier than that, and it can be applied by machine.
But are you trying to remove swirls, get extra oils into the paint? ColorX is not the strongest product out there for removing defects, etc.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: Got Some Questions..
Patience is key. It should take around half an hour to clay a car. Make sure you apply a little bit of pressure and swipe it vertically and horizontally. Could just be a bad last layer of clearcoat, which would require light wet sanding to correct. It will also take some time to polish by hand, but a DA buffer would make the job a lot easier.

Re: Got Some Questions..
Did you apply one or 2 coats of wax or sealent after you clayed the car? Always follow with at least a protective layer after you clay.
As Murr already said, ColorX is very mild, and is actually not very hard to use by hand. Try SwirlX by hand, you'll tell the difference. Just remember SwirlX is more agressive. So, choose the product depending on what results you want.
Good luck!

Re: Got Some Questions..
yeah i clayed bar the car pretty good, took me about an 45..As far as wet sanding, im staying away from that cause i wouldnt even know where to start..Before i colorX i clayed, then colorX but i mean i dont know if i got equal amount of good elbow grease on each panel or the whole car cause after awhile my arm died..I have the NXT wax ina a can but i coundnt wax it i was drained after claying then colorx, i also clayed my rims..I just wanna make sure colorx is still on top of its game for my black car instead of somthing else out there to do the job on black cars...Yes aswell using colorx i was hoping to get rid of some swirling but like you guys said its mild and not really for that..Also what i noticed is some parts of the paint i see white Dot's its not paint chips cause i ran my hand threw it , its smooth but a hite spot? i have scratchX i was gonna try that unless theres somthing out there better? Re: Got Some Questions..
Swirl-X will also work to eliminate light to moderate swirls. As far as the white spots it could be anything. As for wet-sanding it's not as hard as what it seems. I was afraid at first to sand down my paint, but it sure did make it look 3x better. Get rid of a lot of orange peel in the process as well. But that part is up to you. For black paint, I would buff it with some Swirl-X or M205 ultra finishing polish until most swirls are gone and than follow it with Synthetic Sealant 2.0.

Re: Got Some Questions..
After you've thoroughly corrected your paint, try this before you apply your final coat of wax or sealant. This must be covered by a wax or sealant since it provides no protection and will quickly wash or wear off.

Re: Got Some Questions..
Correct. Swirl-X does only remove swirls but at the same time it does help "clean" up the paint and make it stand out a little. Swirl-X is also a more aggressive method vs. Color-X. Color-X is a cleaner/wax will also will remove swirls.
There is always ultimate compound as part of the consumer line of products that helps restore color and clarity. UC and Swirl-X would be a good combination if you want to clean up the paint some and rid the clear coat of swirls. Than followed by a wax or synthetic sealant.

Re: Got Some Questions..
Scratch-x is for larger scratches. Swirl-X is to eliminate swirls or cob web scratches that appear in almost every clear coat that it not properly taken care of. Ultimate Compound can be found at almost any auto store or superstore.

Re: Got Some Questions..

Re: Got Some Questions..
You'll probably want a Dual Action buffer such as the G110. The Makita is a rotary and without practice you'll end up and burn the paint right down the to the metal. But yes, you can use it by hand and get good results. It will just take some time and elbow grease. Applying the products with a DA will give you flawless results for a show quality look. You shouldn't have a problem with holograms if you use the DA.
Just some advise if you want to learn a little more, go on youtube and watch some videos. Just do a search for Meguiars buffer and ect and you'll learn a good amount there. Meguiar's USA has many videos on there on how to use various products and equipment.
But yes, black paint can be tricky and time consuming to care for if you want the perfect show look. Meguiars is one of the very few brands who actually advertises their products on black vehicles as you get to see the true reflection and quality of the finish. Here's their booth at SEMA this year:
