  • which DA?

As a novice I have never used an orbital buffer. I've researched as follows: PC 7424, Meguiars 110, and Griots 6" are safe, but I have heard the Flex XC3401VGR does a better job, but could burn/ruin the paint easily. My cars are black ( 1995 Porsche C2 & 2004 ZO6) except the hoods look like they have white freckles from small stones I cannot eliminate, Also, which polish & wax would you recommend that does not leave a white residue like my Zymol. (Meguiars NXT Gen 2?) docjess

New Meg's coming out soon, with a "cruise control" sort of feature that doesn't allow it to bog down as much as pressure is applied. The Griot's is new in it's V2 form, with a more powerful motor and a lifetime warranty vs a 1 year on the others. and there aren't a lot of reviews on it. It'd be nice to get a few more. And the good ole PC...many reviews, great products. Plus the Meg's and Griot's have a bale style handle while the PC has a right angle handle. Just read some reviews around this and different forums.

The Flex is the machine to have. Its forced rotation isn't fast enough to easily burn the paint. Its ability to remove paint defects is far greater than a normal DA.

I just got the new Griot's from Autogeek and really like it. I also have the older 7424, which is a great workhorse, but the new Griot's is much more powerful and has much less vibration.

Thank you all about the machines. What about polish/wax that does not leave chalky residue like Zymol. I spend more time trying to remove residue than polishing. Suggestions? How about Meguiars NXT Gec 2 wax? Thanks again everyone! docjess

Try taping off items you don't want to get wax on. It doesn't take long to tape off and it makes it so nice when you're done. Just pull the tape off and viola!

Look at the first few pictures of this thread. This is a great example of taping off.
