  • Pre-clear bra installation prep on new car, forum noob looking for feedback..

I'll be picking up my new car this coming week (2010 Camaro 2SS in Silver, no rally stripes) and have a clear bra (VentureShield) I'll be installing myself and these are the steps I am planning on doing once the car is home. I am going to be using Meguiar's products because I have seen good feedback here and other places and my local auto shop stocks their full line so I have easy access to product. The important part for me is ensuring all the surfaces the clear bra is going to be applied to are properly cleaned, leaving nothing behind but the clear coat to adhere to and am looking to get feedback on the steps I am going to take before and after its installation.

    1. Wash the car with a mild dish detergent to get it down to the clear coat (told the dealer not to wash/wax it but I think they'll be doing it anyway)

    2. Clay Bar the whole car with Meguiar's Clay Kit

    3. Wash the car once again with a mild dish detergent (the second and last time dish detergent will ever see the car).

    4. Apply the clear bra, I have coverage for the front 18 inches of the hood, fenders, upper and lower bumper, mirror back, and am considering the front section of roof, a pillars, and rocker/door area.

    5. After the clear bra is installed I'll let it sit for a day or two in the garage and wax the whole car with Meguiar's NXT 2.0

    That is my plan and any feedback on it would be appreciated and I have three other questions as well;

    1. When I go to wax the car does it make sense to wax the clear bra as well, I am assuming yes because from what I have read you treat it like you do the rest of the car when it comes to washing and waxing.

    2. Any suggestions on what to hit the inside surfaces of the vehicle with for its first detail (not sure what the dealer is going to attempt to do yet for the inside).

    3. I will probably be applying the NXT 2.0 by hand the first time but in the future would like to use a DA to do so. What is the recommended pad for its application. I know this is probably out there but figured I'd hit you up wince you took the time to read this already)

Thanks in advance, this is my first post here in the forums and it is apparent there is a great deal of information and passion here, I look forward to conversing with everyone as I get more and more obsessed with maintaining the showroom look of my new car.

Sounds about right.Though really your could just wash the areas getting the bra wit hthe detergent, if you wanted to be picky about it.

You may want to at least use a cleaner/wax as well before the Nxt 2.0.

    1. Just be gentle, and be carefull with the edges. Always come across the edges, not bumoing into them.

    2. Depending on how you recieve it, it may just need a dressing, Supreme or Natural Shine are nice. Or you may have to wipe it down some first, either with Quick Interior Detialer or APC to clean it.

    3. You mean by machine? The Soft Buff 2.0 Finishing pad is used for waxes.

Thanks Murr1525, having seen a "few" of you postings throughout "some" of the forum your response is well appreciated. Now all I need is the car

There should be no need to rewash the car after claying if you're using the Smooth Surface Clay Kit. If you're installing yourself then a quick wash, clay and prep with whatever products are recommended by the film manufacturer should be more than sufficient. The only thing you want to watch out for, and evaluate very critically for, is the presence of any swirls in the paint. Granted, the silver paint is going to mask them pretty well, but if the dealer touches that car and they lack skill in doing so (sure wouldn't be the first time we've seen that happen!) you will want to eradicate those before applying the protective film.

Thanks Mike, that is one of my fears, I have already told the dealer I do not want them to wash the car and the sales guy kinda looked at me like I had two heads. I said I would take care of it but I think I am going to have explain WHY I don't want them to touch it.

After your done installing the clear bra and are ready to wax the car, I suggest using some 1" blue painters tape to tape off the edges of the bra, this will keep wax from getting lodged in the edges. If the wax gets stuck in there it looks really bad and it may, over time, cause the edges to loose their adhesive and it will start to lift.
I've had the Venture shield on my car for two years and 45,000 miles, I really like it. To maintain, I just wax it along with the rest of the car.

I think the VentureShield is really clear and makes your car more luxurious and sophisticated. I like it.
