  • How is this for some paint defects?

    About 4 weeks ago, i was at Discount tire getting a flat repaired when a customer backed into my door basically smashing the whole door in as well as part of my quarter panel. pictured here:



    I took it to a local body shop, because I like to support local business instead of big business I.E. instead of walmart, local grocery store etc. So I took it to this body shop whom my family has dealt with for many years and I get this!




    Obviously I am not happy, since this is my pet peeve. I don't own a truck, so my car is routinely used as one. I hunt, fish, and am outdoors alot. I drag this car through the mud, the woods, dirt, and water. BUT, I always come back and detail it and it looks great. SO as you can imagine I am not happy at all! Well lucky for me, I get clipped on the HWY by some guy trying to change lanes.



    So back to the body shop it goes...again. I showed the owner that last time I got this, and he said he would take care of it. Lets hope he does this time around. If I get my car back and he does not fix my problem, what do you guys suggest? Swirl-X didnt even come close, on a test spot, but UC seemed to have gotten 80% out on a test spot. Am I to the M105 point, or just do two helpings of UC?

    I'm sorry for you bad luck and I'm truely at a loss of words!

    If UC only for 80% on the test then I would bump it up to 105.
    Hopefully she won't come back from the shop looking like that.....YIKES!!!

      Wow, that's fairly exceptional.... not to mention depressing.

      You said SwirlX didn't correct much of anything and UC got rid of most. How were you using these products, by hand, D/A or otherwise? That will have a huge impact on your results.

          How far are you away from one of the MOL'ers in Texas? If you wanted it done right, Nick Chapman is located in TX.

          (For the record, I'm well aware Texas is a big state and you could be 8 hours away from Nick. Just thought I'd toss that suggestion out there.)

              I hope so too. Car goes in today (monday). One way or another it needs to get a good once over again, so bopefully when christmas time rolls around I will own a Mild claybar, M105, and a G110 to get rid of the stubborn defects.

                wow, sorry to hear your car getting ruined all the time, hope this time will be better...
                I think the safest, fastest, and most efficient way would be to hire a pro detailer (maybe one from MOL could do it while also teaching you), and then for the future you would only need to maintain the car (wash, clay, cleaner/wax, wax) :]

                  While this can be corrected by hand, it is obviously a LOT of work. Ultimate Compound would be our first choice for tackling this job by hand, no doubt about it. Of course, nothing says you need to do the entire job in one day - it seems as though you've been living with this for a while, so doing part of the car every weekend until it's to your liking can make the process a bit less painful.

                  But there is merit in finding a skilled pro detailer to do the initial correction and then you can properly maintain it from there.

                    My initial plan of attack is to of course, hope it comes out of the body shop this week looking nice(er). If not, as you mentioned I plan to progressively work on a panel until I like it, then use that process to do the whole car. Being in engineering school isn't cheap on me, so I can't afford to hire a detailer. And besides I need the practice, because I would like to detail on the side myself. ANd what better way to practice than on a black car. I hand detail some cars on the side for summer money, but never anything this bad and never anything that I thought I may have an unhappy customer(i.e. not getting in over my head). I want to buy a G110 anyway and once I do i will stat the correction process myself.
