  • Pre winter clean up?

Hey guys, its supposed to be REALLY NICE this weekend here (63, 60) temp. wise and i plan to give my truck a pre winter clean up/detail. Im not sure if i need/want to get into a full paint correction this fall yet but i might end up doing it.

Anyway, im looking for a good cleaning and paint protection to hopefully last me through the 5-6 mos of snow, ice, salt, chloride etc.

I guess im kinda wondering what i should do diff. for winter, if anything to protect it. Should i do anything with underbody/frame/suspension or stuff that most people dont think or worry about in the summer months.

Let me know what process you guys would use for a vehicle entering bitter cold temps, snow, ice, road salt/liquid chloride, slush etc.

Thanks guys and sorry im still kinda new at this :P

Nxt 2.0 is the best protecting wax, so I would have that included.

I just do ColorX and Nxt 2.0 for a quick detail.

          Re: Pre winter clean up?

I agree with Murr regarding the ColorX and NXT 2.0 combo. The ColorX does a nice job of cleaning and light correction prior to the NXT which is Meguiar's best protecting LSP. You could also try A12 or DC1 in place of the ColorX step.

I've read a lot about Collinite's durability so, as a trial, I recently applied two coats of 845 as part of my winter prep on a black MDX (after some SwirlX for minor correction/cleaning). I really liked the ease of use and gloss/shine. I guess we'll see about the durability come Jan/Feb...

            Re: Pre winter clean up?

well i have M21 Syn. Sealant 2.0 which is basically re mirror glaze line of NXT.

I also have M205 which i could use in place of colorX

however, does anyone have any suggestions on anything else to try and clean/protect such as underbody etc?

              Re: Pre winter clean up?

I always get my cars sprayed with a rust protector... interior body panels and undercarriage. Cost about $80.

                Re: Pre winter clean up?

idk if we have anywhere around here that does that or not.

heres kinda my thought process on my truck

Wash: Gold Class 2BM w/ GG
Wheels/Tires: All wheel cleaner, Westley Blech Wite
Clay: SS clay kit w/ LT as lube
                Minor Compounding: M205/Polishing Pad/Speed 5
                LSP: M21 x2 on paint.

Id also chrome polish wheels, bumpers, grille or anything metal....maybe diamond plate toolbox?

Not sure yet what id do with interior....but it DEFINITELY needs cleaned/detailed!
