  • Tires - how to finish ?

    Hi all !
So I've been detailing my Skoda Octavia 2 (thats like a VW Passat or Audi A5, same motor, same maker) these last few months and I'm very happy with Megs products. Event got a DA but havn't had a chance to use it yet. It'll be for the spring I guess.
Anyway, something puzzles me since I coated my tires ith meg's shine gel. I understand yoy're not supposed to put it on the tire itself, but on its side (not where it touches the ground), and that makes sense if the products is slippery. But the problem with that, is that the "rolling band" of the tire really looks like **** next to the nrillinat finished sides of the tire.
So how do you deal with this, and keep the "Rolling area" od the tire as black as possible?
Thanx for your input, here's a shoot of the car you'll see what I mean...

Your wheel wells are the eyesore. Don't worry 'bout the tread.

Find a long handled brush of some kind that will get in the wheel well easily and just give them a good scrubbing. I used a new toilet brush for a while until I found a better brush for the job.
Then dress them with Hyper-Dressing 4:1 or to your liking. I just spray them good and walk away and they turn out great. You can also use the Hyper-Dressing on the whole tire, just make sure you don’t leave little puddles within the tread before you do any normal driving or you’ll have it all over the side of your car.
Here’s an old thread (one of my favorites) by Kevin Brown where he uses Hyper-Dressing on the tire tread and wheel wells. http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25974

Great thread to bring up once in while to show how it’s done!

There's really nothing you can do about dirty tread. It's going to get dirty again the second it starts rolling. Just do your best with the sidewalls.

A brush is great for wheel wells, if you can fit one in there.

My wheel wells, since that's how it's called, sorry for my poor english, seem to be in some kind of fabric. I guess it's still OK to scrub them right?
Thanx for the infos, I'll check the thread !

usually scrubbing the fabric doesn't require scrubbing, just wash it with a pressure washer until the water coming off the wheel well runs clean (it usually takes a while). Then dress like a normal wheel well.

You can scrub them even though they are fabric, it won't hurt them. Make sure to use some sort of cleaning agent such as APC or a car wash soap.

Fabric Wheel wells don't dress too well, but you can try dressing them anyways.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

During summer (clean) months I always used a wheel/tire cleaner to scrub the treads. They would be black, but not a dressed look. Seemed to work well for me.

On our new Altima the front wheel wells are fabric. I just wash them with the car wash soap after washing the rest of the car. Works well for me.

usually i wet and forget them about one hour before washing the car,the mud goes easy then with a dish sponge and some shampoo.
