  • Ultimate Compound was the key on this black Honda Pilot (PICS)

So, I've been looking at my mom's 1 yr. old 2009 black Honda Pilot lately and the unsightly swirls and bad body shop work. The swirls are from car washes and low quality towels, but the left rear quarter panel was recently repaired and painted. After the wax wore off, the body shop holograms and swirls, probably from a bad rotary job, were horrible.

It's her Birthday this week, so I decided to spiff up her ride.

Well, 5 hours of work later with my Ultimate Detailing Machine, I'm pretty happy with the results. I thought for sure my SwirlX on an orange pad would knock the blemishes out, but it only did a 50% improvement. Then I switched to ScratchX 2.0 on an orange pad and there was barely any improvement. I had to call my wife to tell her to stop at Walmart and get some Ultimate Compound (which I've never used BTW). I went for it with the UC and a Lake Country yellow pad. Finally, got some results. The UC sure makes a mess (lots of slinging due to the thinness) and is a PITA to remove, but leaves a nice finish on it's own. I thought I was going to have to followup with the SwirlX but instead I just finished it off with NXT 2.0 on a Lake Country green pad and it looks darned good for a daily driver. The UC really knocks out scratches and swirls so well, I don't know why to even mess with SwirlX or ScratchX 2.0. For lighter jobs, I'll probably just use the UC on a lighter pad and stop messing around.

Here's some before pics. Notice the BAD holograms on the left rear fender area:

    And the finished product:

Let me know what you think. I'm impressed with the UC and will definitely continue using it. I was scared to go to that level, esp on black, but it worked great.

It was so much shinier in the first picture, now it just looks like a mirror. How boring...

    Seriously though, good job.

Nice save - those holograms were really nasty!

That just does not sound right, not right at all. UC should not be as thick as SwirlX but it should not be really thin either. It should be more like ScratchX 2.0. We have seen some situations where people have gotten a bottle of UC that was almost watery and it's either due to exposure to extreme heat or extreme cold - obviously before you even purchased the bottle. Interestingly, in all of these cases the user still reported getting outstanding results with the product.

Still, so thin that it slings all over the place and that it's difficult to remove is NOT the norm for Ultimate Compound and we apologize for the issues you've had with this bottle. Please call our Customer Care Center at 800-347-5700 and talk to them about this. If you can locate a batch number stamped onto the bottle itself (not on a label, but directly onto the bottle) they'll want that for tracking purposes. They will gladly replace the bottle for you, just mention this thread and that I asked you to call.

Again, great work on the Honda!

I seem to have the same issue with my UC bottle. It really looks like rotten milk if I can take that analogy (on a pad, I get clear liquid, sipping into the pad, and some white stuff remains on the pad). Is the replace policy the same in other countries? France i.e.?

Great work on the Honda. It looks great. I bet your mom was very happy.

My UC is fine, but I had this problem with Scratch-X 2.0 - extremely watery and slingy. But it did still work. I threw it out. In any case, UC/Swirl-X cover enough ground for me.

Thanks for the responses. Because this is my first bottle of UC, I don't know if the consistency is what it should be or not. It's definitely NOT the same as my SwirlX, so if it should be similar, it could be thinner than it's supposed to be. Also, my Yellow DA pad has the little depressions and is very "porous" (picture below) so I think it's easier for any product to fling out (especially on setting 5 that i used). I probably used more product than I needed but I was a little scared of this pad and really wanted to make sure it was wet to all the edges.
