  • QD not for dust?

I have noticed some very micro swirls in my hood. They seem to be new. Right now they are only visible in the right light, at the right angle and very close up, so I can live with them.

I am thinking I have pinpointed the source to cleaning off light layers of dust with QD. Could this be the culprit? IS QD not suited for that type of clean up?

It is meant for light dust in general....

But if your paint is sensitive... if the dust was not "light" (who knows where the cut off is)... if the MF wasnt high quality.. who knows.

It depends on how much dust you have accumulated on the surface and how much QD you're using. Quik Detailer is in fact designed to allow you to safely remove light dust and fingerprints without scratching the paint. Many of our company vehicles are wiped down regularly without damage, or at least a very minimal amount over time. If a car sits outside more than just a couple of days though, depending on the local environmental conditions, it may collect too much surface contamination for this to be completely safe.

No matter how careful you are, over time you are going to accumulate some amount of surface defects over time. Unless you park your car in a hermetically sealed bubble and never touch it, but where's the fun in that?

Have a look at this thread for more detailed info on how you might be able to avoid some of this.

As stressing as that is, it's comforting at the same time

I did pick up a California Duster at Wal Mart tonight while I was grocery shopping. I was also pleasantly surprised to find many of the Meguiars products I like there for less than they are at the auto parts store.

The other key in the link you supplied seems to be the amount of QD used. Sounds like I might not have been using enough. Hopefully between the duster and applying a more liberal amount of QD, I can keep the scratches to a minimum.

I just bought a gallon of last touch, and I spray it on pretty generous when I QD my vehicle. If there is more than a day or two worth of dust I have to wait for the next wash.
