I was told by a detailer its ok to clay right after washing/ rinsing while the car is still wet, is this true?
Does the water provide enough lubrication?
Thanks!
sure, no real reason to dry the car first if you are going to clay.
The water by itself isn't enough lubrication but if you use CLEAN soapy water the soap gives lubrication or just spry your normal clay lube like normal and start claying.
I detailed my DD Chevy Tahoe the other day. This is one vehicle that is my beater truck aand never gets washed or detailed. It's been at least a year since it's even had a simple wash. After washing I went right to claying without even drying it first and just sprayed my 1:1 Last Touch clay lube over the water still on the truck and clayed away.

That's what I do, but I STILL spray the UQD , but just not AS much compared to claying a dry car.
Don't clay the car using water as lube. That certainly will risk more swirlmarks.
Always use a lubricant like Quick Detailer or Last Touch for claying !
Water-soap mixture works but it will destroy the clay !
Clay starts crumbling after a while when using water-soap mixture !
I don't always recommend this, but I have clayed with just water many times with no ill effects. I only do this when I know I will be polishing so if any marring results I know it will be removed with the polishing.
I've probably clayed 10 cars this way now and have yet to observe any marring as a result...however don't do this unless you test first and are prepared to deal with any marring that might be caused!

Hey, just an FYI- You should not use UQD for claying. It is not designed for use as a clay lube and it's more expensive per oz. anyway. UQD is more of a "jazzed up" quick detailer with protectants whereas for claying, you just need the lubrication factor. Last Touch diluted 1:1 and Quik Detailer are good for this.
