  • Confused about "real wax" vs UQW

After doing a lot of reading and watching vids here on the site, I stumbled across some wax facts that have me confused and I hope somone can clear it up.

Initially, I wrongly assumed that UQW was a substitute for other wax products. I now now it's a supplement and how to properly apply it.

The confusion stems from the fact one of the videos I watched here mentions the need to avoid wax on top of wax as it can make the paint appear dull. Then another video talks about how some guys are reporting that with proper use of UQD & UQW, they hardly ever have to wash and wax their ride.

It seems to me if UQW is not a substitute for "traditional" liquid or paste, using it on top of an existing coat of wax would be the same as having too much wax and that's something the videos caution against.

Am I reading too much into this or is the forumula of UQW such that it won't cause this problem?

To begin with, thanks for reading and watching the videos on this site.

Lets see if we can help out.

Supplement is a good word to use, especially if you are a detailing fanatic. However, there are some people that are looking for quickest and easiest way to wax their car, and this is also a solution for them. These people most likely aren't looking for the best results, so this product is also a solution for them. Either way, if you are a detailing fanatic, or a "wax if you have to" person, UQW is a great solution.

If you over use a wax product, or any product for that matter, you will tend to leave behind / get a residue on the surface that leads to streaking, smearing which appears as dulling to many people because there are no sharp reflections, just streaking / smearing. Another message to take away from that statement is to NOT use UQW as a Quik Detailer. It is not meant to be a Quik Detailer, but some people use it as one, and tend to get streaking.

This means that if you use a combination of UQD often and UQW once a month or so, you shouldn't have to wash / wax your ride. As you know, there are many people that do not have to wash their rides because of a Quik Detailer type of product. Between that and using UQW once a month, you are good to go for an average car that is not abused by the elements.

We are simply trying to say that we still recommend using a traditional wax 3-4 times per year, but you can also use UQW in between that time to ensure maximum protection. That doesn't means every day or every weekend, but maybe once a month?

Not at all, hope this helps clear up the confusion.

I think you cleared it up.

If I am using UQW to supplement the normal waxing every few months and the paint still shows nice reflections and the UQD is coming up easily, does that mean I'm doing it right?

I live in Texas where the weather can get nasty and am in an apartment with no covered parking, so the cars do take their share of exposure. I recently loaded up on about $60 worth of products to do a proper 5 step on both cars, but the weather hasn't cleared enough to let me get on it yet....

Sounds like your spot on in your schedule. I would say keep it up

Once you complete the other steps, let us know how it turns out.

          Thanks!

The Mrs. claims I've developed a case of OCD when it comes to the cars lately. The last two cars I drove had serious paint issues that weren't worth fixing and now that I have nice metallic paint job on a car I love, I want to keep it looking good.

The only downside is she won't let me get away with just pampering my car, so it's twice as much work for me

Once they are in good shape, it is much easier to keep them there.

A cleaner/wax followed by a wax is a great way to quickly detail a vehicle in good shape.
