  • Ivex surface protection system.

I am new to this forum so I am not sure this is the right place for my question.

I have just purchased a Lexus RX and the dealer is pushing the Ibex surface protection system at a price of $795

I would appreciate any feedback on whether this is worthwhile or whether other Mcguire's products will work as well.

I have read the thread on sealants and see that Meguire's offers a polymer sealant and other sealant products. Is the dealer applied sealant any better? i.e. worth $795?

    I would appreciate any input.

    IMO no.

There are far too many very skilled guys on this forum w/ in driving distance that could protect your Lex 3-4 times over with that kinda of money.

If you search for dealer applied sealants of dealer applied protection, etc, you'll find many, many discussions about this with virtually no positive comments.

One question we've never seen an answer to is whether or not these systems will prevent swirl marks - we suspect (an understatement if ever there was one) the answer is a resounding "NO". So once you get swirls in the paint, and you will, you will need to use at least a very mildly abrasive paint cleaner to remove them. And since swirls are below surface defects, what do you think happens to an above surface applied sealant when you do remove them? Yep, the applied sealant - and your $795 "investment" - is gone.

          and then there's:

Most will agree it is a total waste of your money.

Instead, take that money and put it aside to have a professional detailer come and fully polish and protect your vehicle every so often. You will appreciate the difference that makes FAR more than an invisible coating that doesn't seem to actually do anything.

I read this thread earlier this evening. I've never heard of this before. There are no miracles out there. So it's an awful lot of money to part with. The less the dealer touches, the better.

For ~$800 you can get someone like Joe from Superior Shine to truly perfect your car and protect it for a long time to come. Personally, I would be honored to have Joe work on my car.
