If your backing plate measures a full 7" in diameter then no, it will not work on the SB 2.0 pads as the recess is only 5.75" in diameter. Otherwise, any backing plate normally used with 6" or smaller pads should work - our W66 Easy Buff So1o (rotary), W64 (rotary) or the W67DA that ships with our G110 dual action polisher will work with the SB 2.0 pads.

Yes, the generic backing plate is full 7" diameter. It came with two 7" sandpapers too. Well, this gives me a valid reason to order Meguiar's backing plate with SoftBuf 2.0 cutting and polishing pad. I like the idea of having machine washable pads.

        Detailed it.

        washed
        clayed
        UC on orange pad
        7 on black pad
        nxt on jewelers pad.

results are good, there are still swirls present though nowhere near as bad. whats my next step?

Jeff, did you do just a single pass with Ultimate Compound? Depending on how long you've been using the PC it may be simply a case of refining your technique just a bit. We often see people rushing a bit, whether that's moving the machine too quickly over the paint, working too large an area or just not using a long enough buff cycle for each section. In some cases "rushing" is only a slightly faster process, not a huge difference time wise - but it can make a noticeable difference in the final outcome.

Also, how much pressure were you applying to the machine? In some cases a bit more pressure than usual works better, in others the opposite approach gives a better result. So much depends on the paint itself, so what works great on one car may not be so great - or even totally ineffective - on another.

For these reasons we always recommend doing a test spot first. There's nothing more frustrating than going over the whole car, especially with multiple products, only to find you didn't achieve the results you wanted.

Thank you for the advice. My question is,

do i need to re-clay/wash with palmolive to get all the old stuff off? or can I simply UC and then top with NXT.

Just go over the car with a quick detail spray to remove any light dust and then go back at it with the UC on your D/A. No need to use anything strip the car back down, you just want it clean before you start, obviously.
