Re: UQW as a stand alone wax?

I don't know. But it might not have the same strength of protection as wax or sealant. I don't use the old QW on my car,but use it as a stand alone on other things and it holds out well also. I havn't tried UQW yet due to availability, but from reading threads,it doesn't stain plastics as does a wax. So,it's composition is different. But if it works, why not?

      Hmmm,

maybe an official response from Meguiars is in order.

I agree, my 13 tins of M16, tin of Gold Class, bottle of NXT, bottles of Cleaner wax (see where I'm going with this?) will always be of great use to me. I will always use a regular wax. My point was just to illustrate that someone who does not have the same zeal we have about protecting our finishes (our significant others, siblings, parents, etc.) will still use some method of protection. I like the idea as many people as possible using some kind of wax, whether or not they have the time or the enthusiasm. I find that UQW has enough protection to be used on its own as an extremely practical alternative to normal waxing.

Assuming that you do not want any cleaning action whatsoever (even a foam pad does some with a product that has no cleaners itself), it is my guess that the UQW could be used as a stand-alone with reasonable durability. I might try this next time the car needs waxing--wash, clay, Swirl-X and UQW.

I wish Meguiars would comment on this. But I also understand that they don't want to discourage sales of other products. Also, the very kind of person who is likely to go for UQW as a stand-alone is also likely the kind who hasn't properly cleaned the paint first. A once a year wash followed by UQW would be a very ugly way to go about things.

You are right, but each car is different and each person is different and the prep work to the paint prior to using any of their products is also a factor.

Plus, even with the newer waxes and 2.0 versions, there's also good ol' stand bys with the A line Cleaner Wax and Gold Class, both of which I like and use still. Heck, I really want to try the DC Carnuba wax but I have a bottle of M26 and a tin of M26 paste and can't justify it.

UQW is great, I use it all the time in between waxing and haven't waxed our Yukon for a while.
