  • Cleaning pads? (not 2.0 pads)

    Hi all,

I have done a bit of searching on the topic and unfortunately couldnt find what I am looking for. There are a number of threads detailing how to clean SoftBuff 2.0 pads but none that I could find on the old pads... 2.0 pads are not available in Australia yet, but the older ones are...

I have a 12 new older version pads (w8006 & w9006) which will still perfectly work for me (i hope?) but I have no idea how to clean them. Was thinking a gentle hand wash with warm soapy water, or even flushing them out with plain water? If i am to use soap, any things in the soap i should look out for?

Also, how can I tell if a used pad is 'old' and should throw it out? Any pointers would be great..

Finally, I am sure there is a thread about it, but the best way to wash MF/Chamois/Water Magnets & Terry Towels is in a warm, non-softer washing machine on a normal cycle? (like towels together only...)

Thanks again for all your help!!

Re: Cleaning pads? (not 2.0 pads)

I hand wash my older pads with dishwashing soap. I fill a large glass bowl with warm soapy water and let them sit for about an hour, then work the pads with my hands and rinse. I keep refilling the bowl with clean water and compress the pads until the water stops clouding, then I press the pads with a flat object like a dinner plate to squeeze out the excess water. For drying them, I fold two terry cloth towels and press the pad between them, then let the pads air dry for a day.

The pad remains serviceable as long as the backing plate remains glued on and the foam is not disintegrating on the face, and none of the foam has become hardened from contamination (especially along the edges).

Your towel washing method sounds about right.

I go by hand with dish soap for the pads.
