  • Would Polish or Wax helps remove swirl marks?

    Hello

I start to realize that my new car has a few swirl marks.
I was wondering if Polishing or Waxing will help removing them or do I have to go fix them with a scratch X 1 by 1?

To remove any kind of defect from the paint you'll need to use abrasive products. Depending on the defect will determine the choice of how aggressive the product will have to be.

To remove them you'll need something like ScratchX or SwirlX depending on how severe they are, last resort will be Ultimate Compound but that's for severe defects.

What kind of car do you have? Any pics?

A pure wax won't remove them, but a cleaner wax may help reduce the severity of them. Cleaner waxes such as ColorX, M66 or D151 are often aggressive enough, especially when applied by machine, to do an outstanding job of removing light defects from paint.

A pure polish won't remove them either, but could conceal them to some degree. That is only a temporary fix though. A cleaner polish like M80 Speed Glaze or M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish will remove them, and introduce some polishing oils in the process to help deepen and richen the color.

But in both of the above examples, it is the addition of a "cleaner" that really does the correction. Ultimately, what you need to remove these swirls is a paint cleaner - either a stand alone cleaner such as SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0 or Ultimate Compound, or one of the above mentioned products that combines a cleaner with either a wax or polish.

A lot depends on how severe the swirls are, how hard the paint is, and what your expectations are. Many people swear by ColorX and love that it's an effective one step product. But you may find better results by using SwirlX and then following with your wax of choice.
