  • Would M26 or NXT 2.0 be considered a cleaner wax?

I want to use a product that would clean and protect a surface that is in excellent condition. Something that I can use maybe every week or two. I use M105/M205 folllowed by M21 and M25 about three times a year but I want something in between.

    Thanks

M26 is what's called a pure wax, that doesn't mean it's 100% wax, that means it has no cleaning ability and should only be applied to finishes in excellent condition.

NXT and M21 both have a sleight amount of cleaners in them but are not even close to what most people would consider a true cleaner/wax.

M20 Polymer Sealant would be a good light cleaning, long lasting wax or A12 in the Consumer Line.

You should try Ultimate Quik Wax.

Use an M9910 Ultimate Wipe or a X2010 Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel to apply to remove.

Even though there are no "cleaning agents" in UQW, it has a consistency of water, and the microfiber towels have great mechanical action.

      The UQW is outtasight!

Thanks Mike. Would the A12 dry clear M26 or would it have a white haze?

I think M26 is the only one that dries clear.....can't be for certain though..... I love M26! I just got some M20 and it's a great wax too! All of them are great! Lucky I have an understanding wife!

Can the A12 be used safely with a random orbital?

Almost all Over-the-Counter consumer waxes have some cleaning and polishing agents in them. This way, people could apply them straight after a car wash. The polishing and cleaning agents act to remove surface contaminant and level down very light scratches. In the cases where a consumer wax does not contain any cleaning agents, the product is usually accompanied with a polish or cleaner (Such as in the case of Meguiar's or Mother's 3 Step System).

Pure waxes are usually released as a product for the enthusiast or professional users. The reason is that people in these niche markets would do a thorough job cleaning and polishing the paint surface prior to applying the final layer of wax.

There's no set time on how long to wait to apply the second coat. Keep in mind that the longer you wait to apply another coat, the more time you expose the surface to dust and contaminant between coats.

Jim, you may find Mosca's article on cleaner wax to be of interest. Also see his article on the Value of Cleaner Wax.

Not sure how much cleaning needs to be done on paint that is in excellent condition. You sure you need to "clean" the paint and not just protect it?

With the aggressive nature of M105, I would think it is not recommended to use this 3 times a year, unless, of course, you don't plan on keeping the vehicle very long. That way you won't have to deal with the clearcoat failure due to a very thin clear from too many aggressive buffing sessions.

The car is a daily driver. It needs some cleaning but not too much. I keep it as nice as possible at all times.

Thnaks for the advise! I have only used M105 once so far. I have use M205 twice but both times were with a finishing pad. The first time was right after using M105. When I said I used it 3 times a year that is what I was planning. I'm sure glad you mentioned not to use the M105 too often.

If all you need is light cleaning then M205 on a finishing pad should be just fine - provided your washing/drying technique is top notch.

We often have people ask if it's safe to use paint cleaners a couple of times a year or more, and generally our response is "if you need to use them that often, let's take a closer look at your washing/drying process to see why you need to do so that often."
