  • HELP! Water spot trouble

Hi all, just found this forum.

Washing my new mustang for the first time. California hard water + sun (I know, but I woke up late) = water spots!

I wanted to put her first coat of wax on today for a big trip tomorrow, please help.

I was thinking: clay bar, polish, then wax, hoping the clay bar can get rid of fresh water spots.

OR, I can wait until this evening, wash the car really fast again, then I dunno, maybe wax it in the dark.

Do I need the clay bar if they are fresh water spots? Think I can just Quik Detailer them out?

You can try just the Quick Detailer, getting them as fres as possible the better.

Or you may need clay, or you may need a paint cleaner.

Do you have SwirlX laying aorund, or able to grab some?

If the car stays failry clean today, you may not need to re-wash, just use the QD to dust it. (yeah, you may need an extra QD bottle also.)

I would go least aggressive first. Try following what Murr Stated. That should be your order.

Try some distilled white vinegar--perhaps diluted 1:1 or simply straight vinegar. Hopefully you have caught the spots early enough, before the spots have etched into the paint. The acid in the vinegar will help to break the bond of the minerals to the paint surface. Good luck!

Man, I can't believe it, but quik detailer didn't do anything. The whitish rings just became dark rings, even though it's only been a few hours. Guess it's clay and scratch X -- then polish and wax. Whew, this just became an all day thing.

                Do you have ScratcHX 1.0?

                  Re: HELP! Water spot trouble

I just picked up the 2.0... of course when I was driving to autozone, I hit a gravel patch!

                  Grrr

Ok, my new plan is to wait for the sun to drop, do a quick wash with a quick dry, clay the car, scratchx 2.0 the spots the clay doesn't get, polish then wax with nxt 2.0. Yikes. Wonder if I can leave out the polish stage.

Just do the polish next detail.

I hope the clay gets some of it.. try and get in some shade now if you can.

                      Re: HELP! Water spot trouble

Thank you very much for the help!

Still waiting for the sun to go down...

                      Decided to do the interior.

Quik interior wipes -- not too impressive; didn't do a great job of picking of the dust and lint, certainly left to shine.

Gold class protectant wipes -- ahh.. that's the ticket, nice and deep color to the black panels, goes on nicely.

But the real winner.. gold leather wipes -- after hitting my seats with this, I have to say that the leather seats are the only part of the car that looks better than factory. Nice deep, rich color.

                      Sun, go down!

Will take your advice on the polish if I can -- long day.

Well, I meant to say skip the polish, if that wasnt clear.

And yeah, I dont like wipes very much. I prefer a spray to put on a cloth.

                          Re: HELP! Water spot trouble

So... clay and scratchx 2.0 didn't get rid of it. They are lighter, but they are still there. I have a big drive tomorrow so I needed to get some wax on there, but I'm stuck. I need to go to the big guns, cause those spots are dug in.

Also, water spots on my windows (of course). Suggestions.

Thanks for all the help today.

                            Re: HELP! Water spot trouble

Well, on mild window spots, I have had sucess with clay, glass cleaner, and RainX. That seems to disolve them.

For bad ones, you can also try a pint cleaner there, though something like UC/#105, #4 would be recomended. But you can try ScratcHX since you have it.

Ok, i'll give scratchx a try on the windows after I get back. Gonna do some research on the paint water spots -
                              Thanks again!
