  • I've finally decided!!! BUT WHICH ONE?!

Finally I've decided to order a machine buffer/polisher.

I want to order from autogeek.net but I don't know which one is a good choice!!!

    Help me out here!

For your Benz, you will probably want to get a package that comes with the more aggressive foam pads. To give you an idea how hard the ceramic clear coat on your car is, a LC white polishing pad is only good enough for wax application.

Also, are you buying a rotary or a Dual Action?

Hi! thanks for the fast reply, I am buying a DA since I am still a beginner.

Is Porter Cable 7424XP good enough?

Yeah, it is a very good machine, though it doesn't seem too popular around here.

Though it is a powerful machine, you will likely have to use this machine at its full speed for defect removal.

I have and use the Flex 3401 DA. A very nice machine although a bit more expensive than the Porter Cable, Megs, or Griot units but it's also a somewhat more powerful machine than those other units.

Depends on how much you want to spend, the XP kit with the Meguiar's products look mighty fine! Comes with 3 light cutting pads and 2 finishing pads, backing plate, M105/M205 and a couple of MF towels, although unless you have some more towels, get some more!

              Have fun....

                I got G110 package: http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/g110-kit-2.html

So far, I am extremely happy with my G110 and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy their first DA.

How's the backing plate work with those pads? I'm hoping someday Meguiar's will include the proper backing plate as they deplete their old backing plate inventory.

I also ordered another set of pads and pad cleaners

My car has no scratches or swirl marks, so I don't think I need the 105, and can #9 replace 205? They both have roughly the same cutting power.

And does the backing plate on a PC need to get replaced? How come some people order extra backing plates?!

No problems to speak of. The backing plate is just fine.

I have the ~$180 G110 kit from ADS...

I would recommend a Flex kit, since the Flex is a bit stronger than a normal DA.

I find that the G110 is only effective on new, soft Honda paint. Anything else, including '97 Ford, '07 Maserati, '03 Accord, and probably hard Mercedes ceramiclear coat...the G110 is useless IMO. And I doubt you're going to get much better results with the 7424. (Yes, I use KBPC, m105 & m205, w/ SB2.0 yellow PolPads on speed 5 & 6, often yielding 5% correction or less).

You should spend some time going through photos from our Saturday classes and Thursday Night Open Garage sessions - we exclusively use the G110 (and the G100 before it) in these classes, and we never know what's going to be thrown at us. We've polished out horrible swirls on all sorts of vehicles, paints, years, conditions using this tool. Heck, before M105 or even Ultimate Compound came to be, we did it with M83 DACP and M80 Speed Glaze!

Will do. Thanks for the tip .
I recently ordered some 5.5'' LC orange & white pads (I have yet to use them) and am eager to see how they fare against my usually-disappointing combination of 7'' SB 2.0 Yellows w/ m105/205.

Maybe there's some technique that I'm missing and I will do some reviewing and tweaking with the old gear (softbuff 2.0 yellows) before I use the new LC gear .

That is a bold statement... I have removed plenty of swirl marks with a LC white pad, with both a rotary, a flex, and a dual action polisher. I also work on a lot of Ferriar's which feature the PPG Cermaclear paint as well.

Perhaps a better way to phrase that statement is that you cannot get swirl correction from white pads...

I have also worked on paint systems that I would consider much harder then Mercedez Benz paint including Lamborghini Paint (far harder then Mercedes IME).
