  • When is it time to replace DA pads?

How do you know when your pads are in need of replacement?
Can anybody show pics of well-used pads after a good cleaning?
As well as ones that are beyond cleaning, short of the pad physically coming apart.

My only concern is if the backing is falling off and the pad starts to crumble in your hands...

Other than that, I have some older pads and they work fine.

This pad I use for paint cleaning and I hit sharp protruding object and put a line or two, three in it with the rotary I believe.....

    Still works fine.

some people slice honey comb patterns on older pads to increase their cut. maybe you could try that on your old pads.

          Nice!

                Ok guys seriously.
I am still considering purchasing a G100 so I would like to know how to take care of the pads after I get a number of them. This is what the pad looks like after hours of use, this is dried. After cleaning it gets about 40% better is all. I am cleaning it with a stiff bristle brush.

Those are rotary pads made to use with the SOLO system.

                  You want these pads -

Yikes, those are dirty! pad saturation!

I wash my pads with soap and water and give 'em a whirl on my Rotary and let them air dry, only lost one of the old soft buff pads (backing came off) and I always wash them.....

The new Soft Buff 2.0 pads are machine washable.

Don't let your pads get that dirty.

I always take a stiff brush and scrub off all of the caked on cleaners & such before I apply more product.

Definitely needs to be cleaned. In the past, before the washable pads came out. I would throw them in the wash machine and let them air dry.

Re: When is it time to replace DA pads?

I run some hot water in the kitchen sink, squirt Dawn liquid dish soap all over the surface, knead the soap into the pad with the hot water, squeeze several times to ge the polish, dirt and soap out, and then thoroughly rinse in the water. My pads that have looked this bad come out looking fantastic, and I didn't have to coat my washing machine with polish and wax in the process.

My pads start to accumulate several cuts and tears from hitting emblems and such before I replace them. Somone else suggested that they typically use a pad on 7-8 cars before they replace it. I'm probably getting about that useage also.

Also, some polishes seem to deteriorate pads faster than others. In my little experience, I think that the most liquid or runny polishes are the ones that are worse for pads.

Touching any hard or sharp object such as a car emblems, sharp edges and so while polishing will also cause damage to pads.
